Robert DeRosa Obituary

Robert John DeRosa
Robert John DeRosa, known to his family and friends as Johnny, died peacefully on January 2, 2024, in Connecticut Hospice with his family by his side.
Johnny was born in New York City on May 28, 1936, a son of the late Thomas and Filomena Magnotti DeRosa. His family moved to New Haven in 1952 and he resided in Morris Cove where he was a lifelong Parishioner of St. Bernadette Parish. He was a hairdresser and hair replacement specialist by trade, over time owning 9 salons in the greater New Haven area, most recently Royalty for Men. Additionally, he was a Real Estate Broker and operated Time Real Estate in West Haven. Johnny was member of the Santa Maria Maddalena Society and took pride in volunteering for the Loaves and Fishes Program at St. Paul and St. James Episcopal Church. Johnny truly loved life and all that it afforded him, especially the ability to travel. Florida, California, and Italy were among his favorite spots.
Above all else, he loved his family-John was the proud father of Robin (Charles) Filardi, Mitchell (Lisa) DeRosa, Tracy (Robert) Vitelli, Felicia DeRosa, Joya (Fiancé Eddie) and Santino "Sonny" Diglio-DeRosa; brother of Lorraine "Jesse" DiAdamo (Arthur "Butch"), Marylou Carr, Joseph "Tony" DeRosa, George (Christine) and William (Cathy) DeRosa. He is also adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Theo (Andrea) Filardi, Charlotte (Chase) Gillmore, Franco (Peyton), Vincenzo (Elizabeth) and their daughter Gianna, Natalia, and Angelo DeRosa, Alessandro and Teraesa Vitelli, Daniella (Erik) Hernandez and their children Sophie, Aurora, and Isaiah, Gabriella (Matt) Mayo, Robert and Luke Williams, Elijah Zoarski, and Lia Williams who he loved as a grandchild. John was predeceased by his first grandson, Benjamin Filardi. He also leaves behind his former wife, Linda DeRosa, his companion Annette Girasuolo, and his many nieces and nephews who were such an integral part of his life.
His family would like to express their sincere appreciation to his caretaker, John Vozzi, and the staff at Hospice to whom we will be eternally grateful.
Visiting hours will be Saturday morning from 9:00-10:45 in St. Michael Church, 29 Wooster Place, New Haven. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in church at 11:00 a.m. Entombment will follow in St. Lawrence Garden Mausoleum. Memorial contributions may be made to Connecticut Hospice, www.hospice.com. Share a memory on John's Tribute page at www.iovanne.com. Johnny knew me the day I was born. He was one of my Father's closest friends. I enjoyed a lifelong friendship with John. After my Dad's passing, Johnny and I became even closer; he was like a second Father. We traveled and had many great times together. I loved him dearly and will always remember the wonderful moments and history we shared. John's family is like my own family. My deepest condolence and prayers to everyone.

I met Johnny, that was the name I was introduced by my very good friend and Pisano Mark Minervini. Was very honored to have Johnny share a few Special Christmas Eves at our house. The love that this man brought into the room was breathtaking. The moment you met Johnny it was apparent that he loved life and his people that made up his tribe. I´m honored to have known him and accepted me as one of his tribe members. Travel well my friend I´m sure that you will be accepted with those of great faith and love for your fellow man while you were on the face of this earth.
Love you always Johnny.
Thanks for the meeting and your love.
