Robert Idarola Obituary

Idarola, Robert "Bob"
Robert "Bob" A. Idarola, 90 of Woodbridge, CT passed away on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at his home. Bob was born on May 16, 1927 in New Haven, CT, the son of the late Joseph and Carmela Idarola of New Haven. He grew up in the "Hill" section of New Haven graduating, from Commercial High School in 1945 receiving, All State Honorable Mention as co-captain of the football team. Drafted shortly after graduation, Bob served in the U.S. Army prior to attending Junior College of Commerce (Quinnipiac University) in Hamden, receiving a Bachelor of Science in 1948. He owned and operated the Idarola Insurance Agency in West Haven and Insurance Market Services in Hamden with Vincent Marzullo before joining the firm of Ferguson & McGuire Inc. in Wallingford retiring in 1995. He is survived by his loving wife Paula Capogna Idarola and his sister Susan Idarola of North Haven and many cousins. His love of family and friends was unquestionable, loving to entertain them at home in Woodbridge or Vermont. No party or family function was ever complete without a platter of Bob's stuffed hot peppers. His love of sports continued throughout his life. He traded football and baseball for tennis and racket ball, games which he played weekly with friends. He discovered skiing as an adult and loved the sport. He skied many resorts in the North America and Europe. His home at Stratton Mountain in Vermont provided over 30 years of enjoying skiing and weekends on the mountain. Bob continued to enjoy the sport and skied until the age of 86, an idol too many at Stratton. He was proud member of the Amity Club of New Haven, the Village Unity Club and the Stratton Trailblazers. He was a kind and gentle man who was loved and respected by many. A truer friend or neighbor could not be found. He loved life to the fullest, always grabbing an opportunity to travel or take up a new challenge. Thank you to Janet, Michele, Alvin and Mary from Hospice who provided wonderful home care for the final weeks of Bob's illness.
