Robert Mercurio Obituary

Robert "Baron" Mercurio
Robert "Baron" Mercurio, of East Haven, died unexpectedly on Sunday, October 22, 2023, in Yale New Haven Hospital. He was born in New Haven on July 8, 1942, a son of the late Salvatore "Chet" and Mary Buffo Mercurio.
Bobby was a proud veteran of the US Army, serving during the Vietnam War. He was the owner of B&M Deli on Ferry Street in New Haven. The deli was legendary in the Fair Haven neighborhood, where great food and loyal customers came together daily. Baron is survived by his companion, Linda Ambrose, his sister-in-law Cynthia Mercurio, his nephews Salvatore (Cassie) and Pasquale "Pat" Mercurio and his great-nephew Gavin and great-niece Addie. Baron was predeceased by his brother, Richard Mercurio, NHFD. Bobby was like a father to Linda's daughters, Gina Scoopo and Stacey Rogers

This is a shock. After sixty one years I was finally able to talk to the Baron. We attended Notre Dame High School. We were very close in those years (1955-1962). I lost track of him until early last year. Life has a way of interfering with friendships. I vowed to see him the next time I was in CT. RHIP Robert.

We come across many people in our lives who truly impact us. I can say that "The Baron" is at the top of my list.
Always there with a laugh and smile as well as a helping hand when needed.
He was a loving Son to his Mom and Dad and a Big Brother to Richard who left us way to soon.
He is also to be remembered for his service to out country during the Vietnam Conflict.
Still many of us will remember him for the food, laugh's and smile's he brought us as the owner of The "B & M Deli" on Ferry Street in New Haven since 1976. Additionally he always brought us good time's when he owned and operated both "Nancy's Cafe" on Farren Ave in New Haven and "The Giant Valley Inn" on Whitney Avenue in Mt. Carmel Hamden.
"Baron" our loss is the gain of Mom, Dad and Richard and the others in the Mercurio Family as you reunite in Heaven.

I am shocked by my friends passing. Bobby always had a smile on his face and wonderful conversation in the store. He always took care of the " engine 10" crew. I´m going to miss seeing him at the deli. Raise a glass to this fine man. Rest in peace till we see you again. Sal and Carmel Consiglio and family.
