Rogers Conant Obituary

Rogers Conant
Rogers Conant, aged 84, died December 6, 2024, at home in Orange, Connecticut. He is survived by wife Sally Lorensen Conant as well as his son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Evelyn Conant. Born in 1940 in Hartford, Connecticut, Conant graduated from Conard High School in West Hartford. The school was new at the time, and he holds an unbreakable record: his was the first hit on the baseball field. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he was radarman on a destroyer doing picket duty in the Atlantic Ocean. His ship was the first American military ship since World War II to put in at Le Havre, France, and he visited the port again many years later during a trip to the Normandy beaches. His ship also patrolled Guantanamo Bay during the Bay of Pigs crisis. Later Conant joined Union Trust Company, now Wells Fargo Bank, where he became executive vice president. In 1991 together with his wife he established Orange Restoration Labs, an award-winning resource for the care of wedding gowns and other heirlooms. In 1996 he also became director of membership for the Association of Wedding Gown Specialists, an association of cleaners specializing in gown care with members in nine countries. Known for his wry sense of humor, Conant's two passions were the UConn Women's basketball team and fishing. For many years he was a member of Milford Striped Bass Club and with two friends won the 1985 Interclub Bluefish Tournament. He was proud, too, of having fished in four of the top five fishing capitals in the world. At one point he was licensed to captain small charter boats, and he also served several terms as chairman of the board of West Cove Marina, now part of City Point Yacht Club.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside funeral service on Friday, December 13, 2024, at 2:00 p.m., in Mt. St. Peter's Cemetery, 219 New Haven Road, Derby, CT. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the V.A. Charters (free charter fishing trips for active duty, retired, wounded and recovering veterans), P.O. Box #504, West Haven, CT 06516. The Havens Family North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue, has been entrusted with arrangements. www.northhavenfuneral.com
