Not sure what to say?

November 15, 2011

It is with great sadness that I learned today in the UMASS Alumni Magazine of Ruth's passing. Ruth and I were dormitory counselors at Van Meter Hall the first year women lived on Van Meter Hill. Both English majors, Ruth and I spent many long as well as laugh filled hours studying together while offering some semblance of guidance to the young women assigned to our floor. Her skill, insight and compassion were apparent even in those early years most memorably on the evening of November 22, 1963 when we learned of the assasination of President Kennedy. Our paths separated after we graduated from UMass, but I always knew Ruthie would do great things to which the other tributes to her posted here attest. A life well lived, but ended too soon. My condolences go to her family, friends and all whom she touched.

Dear Feinberg and Connors Families:
I just learned of Ruth's death and I am so sorry to hear about it. Ruth came to Ansonia High School at the beginning of my senior year and I was so disappointed when I learned later that she would be doing theatre. It has been one of my big loves and I'm sure I would have benefitted enormously from Ruth's expertise. Fortunately, I got to know her a bit through my friend and college roommate, Pat Niemi, who also started her teaching career at AHS and became friends with Ruth. I live and teach English in Japan and have been here for 14 years, so do not always get news from Connecticut right away. Please accept my condolences on your most irreplaceable loss.

Dear Connors and Feinberg families, I was informed about Ruth's passing this past Friday (8/5) and was deeply saddened. I can only echo the many tributes already posted on this site -- she was one in a million. Her dedication to education and her love of theater was unyielding. May you all be comforted to know that so many share your loss, but more importantly, have such fond memories of this great lady.

Miss Feinberg as we all knew her enriched our lives and taught us all to reach for the skies. She took big time athletes and turned them into dancing waiters for Hello Dolly. She was a truly caring, passionate person who you could hear from the very back of the old AHS auditorium during rehearsal "Louder please!". I loved her and will never forget all that she did for all of us, students, teachers, administrators and the City of Ansonia. How were we so lucky that she chose us when she began her career ?

To the entire Connors and Feinberg Families you are in my thoughts and prayers. Her spirit and special connection to all of us will live on forever. She was truly the wind beneath our wings.

Dear Charlie and the Feinberg Family:
Words cannot express my sorrow to learn of Ruth's passing. Her arrival at Ansonia High School, in the autumn of 1965, was a seminal event. As my English teacher, Ruth motivated her students to enjoy the written word, as no one else. Moreover, this was the first woman I knew who really appreciated the Boston Celtics! She inspired each of us to live life passionately. There was little surprise when Ruth would be named Superintendent of the Ansonia school system. I was so pleased that she witnessed the dedication of the new AHS auditorium, named in her honor, so that Ruth was aware of the affection and high esteem she was held. All of us who knew and loved Ruth will always carry her memory in our hearts. Her legacy was to inspire countless students to "go forth." What a remarkable educator. May her love for you comfort you in the days and weeks ahead.
Sincerely

Dear Chuck, Kenny and David. My heart and my prayers are with you. Ruthie was a vital part of my life. Whether it was politics, personal life or family, our talks were wonderful. So many memories flood my mind: playing school in the upstairs hall of your house, sharing dinners at each other's homes, going to musicals at Ansonia, going to the Tony awards, my terrific times with her and Chuck in Florida. Ruthie was always there for me. I treasure all of my memories. God bless.

Dr. Connors and Feinberg Families,
I was shocked and saddened to hear of the death of Ruth. She and I were co-workers at Ansonia High School. I am truly glad that our path crossed some forty years ago. She was a super person, friend and teacher and could put on some of the best theater productions which made you feel as though you were at a broadway show in New York.I know because I attended everyone one of the shows. When I was going to leave Ansonia High School to return home to North Carolina, Ruth wanted me to let her be the first person that I told that I was no longer returning to Ansonia High School. After leaving Ansonia whenever I returned to visit I would go to see her at the Superintendent office. She always greeted me with a smile and a hug. It is so hard to imagine that she is no longer with us, but her kind and loving spirit will always remain with you, other family members, the people of Ansonia and most of all her former students as well as myself. Rest in Peace Ruth.Your job here was well done. Again,I am glad that I was a co-worker of hers at Ansonia High School and our paths crossed some forty years ago. May God strengthen each of you during this difficult time.

Ruth Feinberg was my English teacher in both my sophomore and senior years at Ansonia High School as well as the director for AHS' 1st musical "Guys and Dolls", where I played Sister Sarah. We used to talk frequently about life experiences, as a friend and mentor. She expected the best from me, and I gave it without question. She was a leader who loved her craft, her students and truly inspired us all. She taught me more than English; she taught me how to lead by example. God Bless you Ruth...until we meet again. My condolences to Dr. Connors and Ruth's entire family who lost a gem of a woman who was greatly admired.

I received the news of Ruth's passing today. She was a great person and teacher. She helped many of us to grow up and broaden our view of the world beyond Ansonia High School. I thought of her from time to time during the past forty years. She will always be one of the most important influences in my life.

I'm so very sorry to hear of Ruth's passing. I worked for Ruth during my senior year at Ansonia High School, while she was the Assistant Principal. Besides some clerical duties, I was tasked to go the various classrooms to collect the students who needed to be reprimanded by her. I remember the tough exterior that Ruth would have to portray, being 'the' disciplinarian of the school. However, I also remember that when she wasn't totally immersed in this role, she was completely genuine and very kind and I had the absolute highest respect for her.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the family.

I am devasted to hear about the loss of Ruth--she was my English teacher in both my sophmore and senior years at AHS. She later directed me in "Guys and Dolls" as Nathan Detroit and was very instrumental to me throughout my college years. She was a friend to my family as well making many visits to my home during those years.
She was a dynamic and driven teacher, mentor and administrator. She will be truly missed by all who knew her. My heartfelt sympathies to her husband, Chuck, and the entire Feinberg and Connors families.

I was privileged and honored to be in Miss Feinberg's "high honors" English class for 3 years (at Ansonia High School). She was a very demanding and excellent teacher! She introduced "us" to theatre and literature and most importantly taught us about growing into adulthood. She was a very special person and I will always cherish her in my heart.
