Sherman Katz Obituary
Sherman Katz, 84, of North Haven passed away peacefully on Friday, January 17th, 2025, with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband for almost 65 years to Sally Weil Katz. Sherman was born in New Haven on April 2nd, 1940, and was the son of the late of Israel G. and Laura "Libby" Gurvich Katz. He served his country proudly and faithfully in the US Navy. Sherman was a manager for Connecticut Container for many years until his retirement. He enjoyed being with his grandchildren, fishing and was an avid setback card player. He was a former member of Club Corvette of Connecticut, Inc. Father of Susan Swirsky (David) and Michael Katz (Helene Victoria). Grandfather of Nicole, Adam, Meghan, Alanna and Deanna. Brother of Ronald, Daniel and Michael Katz.
The visiting hours will be Friday, Jan. 24th from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at The Havens Family North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue with military honors and parlor service to follow at 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, American Heart, American Cancer or the American Diabetes Associations. www.northhavenfuneral.com

I moved to New Haven when I was in 3rd grade and immediately was befriended by Sherman. We became instant friends and then we found out that we were cousins and it became even better. We stayed close all the way through High School and then we took our separate paths. I haven't seen him in over 50 years but I still feel a great loss . Sherman was my first friend when I moved to New Haven in 1952 and we remained friends all this time. You wii be missed.

I am a north Haven resident for 58 years, my wife marilyn who passed away 6 months ago would often watch channel 20, you were always there voiceing you opion about what was good for our town, you and Mike Freda had some interesting conversations, more people in this town should show as much interest as you did including my self, I never met you but I feel I know you some what, thank you for your support, rest in peace.

Sally and family .. my deepest and heartfelt sympathy goes out to all of you. My dad worked a long time with Sherman and he was very fond of him . My parents loved you both and I can see them shuffling a deck of cards waiting for Sherman to take his seat . You are in my prayers that in time and with so many precious memories that you will find comfort in them and peace

I am so sorry to hear of Sherman´s passing. He was a lovely man.
I belonged to his setback tournaments and played with him many many times at J Roos. I have since lived in Florida but every once in awhile he would text to just say hi. So sweet!
You have my deepest sympathy.
