Stefania Iwaskewycz Kolos, 75, of Bethany, passed away peacefully July 16, 2022, at Connecticut Hospice. She was the beloved wife of 54 years to Nicholas Kolos. Stefania was born in Erlangen, Germany, October 10, 1946, daughter of Kataryna Pukatch. She enjoyed spending her time raising her children and volunteering at their schools while they were young. Once the children were older, she worked as a part-time travel agent and then for 20 years as a membership clerk for the Knights of Columbus before retiring. She was active in the local Ukrainian community from early on, participating in Ukrainian folk dancing in her youth. She continued her love of dancing in her role as co-director of the Ukrainian folk dancing group Veselka for many years. She was very proud of her Ukrainian heritage. In her free time, she enjoyed embroidery and was a fantastic cook, hosting many dinner parties and backyard barbeques for friends with enough food to feed an army. She was always known to have a pocketful of sweets for her granddaughters, much to their delight. Cherished mother of Kristina Kolos, Natalie Erickson and her husband Paul, and Peter Kolos and his partner Giulia. Grandmother of Anna and Emma Erickson. She is also survived by her sister, Olga Davis; and her nieces, Danielle and Ana. She will be missed immensely by her family and friends, as well as the many who knew her and were touched by her maternal nature. She is at peace with the angels.
Visiting Hours will be Friday, July 22, 2022 from 5 to 7pm in the Lupinski Funeral Home, Inc., 821 State Street, New Haven; Panachyda Services at 6:30pm. On Saturday, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Michael the Archangel Ukrainian Catholic Church, 569 George Street, New Haven, at 9:30am.
