STELLA KIRPAS Obituary

KIRPAS, STELLA (VERSHISH) Stella (Vershish) Kirpas, aged 87, died peacefully on May 10, 2015 at the Willows Nursing Home in Woodbridge, CT after a long illness. She was the devoted wife of the late Alfred Kirpas. Stella was born on June 20, 1927 in New Haven, CT, daughter of the late Mary and Vincent Vershish. Stella thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her family especially watching her grandchildren mature into young adults. She enjoyed watching them perform at their dance recitals, volleyball, softball and football games. She loved to write stories and poetry and share them with her family and friends. She had a unique love for adopting and rescuing stray animals including cats, dogs, birds and squirrels. She was a vibrant, energetic, classy woman who enjoyed shopping for the latest fashion trends. She enjoyed traveling to Cape May, Cape Cod and all casinos on the east coast. In addition to raising her three children, Stella worked for Southern Connecticut State University as an office administrator for twenty years before retiring in 1987. She was a big advocate for education and returned back to college in her mid-fifties to attain her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in English/Communications. She was a parishioner of St. Margaret Mary Church, Shelton, CT and was a member of the Ladies Guild as well as a Religious Education teacher for many years. She is survived by her children, Cyndee McEvoy (Gene) of Orange, CT, Karen Liska (Mark) of Seymour, CT and Paula Granger (Chris) of The Woodlands, TX, her grandchildren, Rochelle and Danielle Liska and Ryan Granger, her sisters, Nell Czarniak, Ann Tyma and Irene Grous. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her twin brothers, Joseph and John Vershish. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent to the Connecticut Humane Society, 701 Russell Rd. Newington, CT 06111. The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for her during her last illness, especially the caring staff at The Willows Nursing Home and Lifechoice Hospice Care. There will be a private memorial mass for the immediate family members. The Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Rd., Shelton, are entrusted with the arrangements.

We will miss Stella very much. She was such an important part of our neighborhood community. We'll miss her stories, her smiling face, and the fashion shows she gave us prior to special occasions. Stella - keep an eye out for a message from Nicholas with an attached "train picture" that he drew especially for you. Just look for the bright, beautiful balloon when it arrives in heaven. Rest peacefully, sweet Stella. God bless.
