Theodore Nicholas Obituary

NICHOLAS, THEODORE Theodore "Ted" Nicholas, 88, formerly of Trumbull, CT, passed away from complications of Alzheimer's disease November 17, 2011 in Wellington, FL. Loving husband of 64 years to Alice Nicholas, devoted father to Denise (John) Piurek, Kimberly (Rachel) Nicholas, Ted Nicholas, Jr., and Nancy (Michael) Andrello. Beloved "Papa" to five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Brother of Margaret Ellis. Ted, also known as "Mr. Nick" was a physical education teacher in the town of Orange for twenty-eight years. He also worked as manager, social director, and tennis pro at many area country clubs as well as continuing that work in Florida. He was a professional ballroom dancer and avid sportsman. He attended the University of Illinois, proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII and then graduated from Arnold College. He was always the life of the party, will be remembered for his fun-loving spirit and will be dancing in our hearts forever. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Dear John-

Our sympathies to you and your family on your loss. Thank you so much for letting us know.

Although Ted was only with us a short time, he touched many of us. He was truly the life of the party, as his legacy site says. My fondest memory of him is hearing his unexpected and passionate dislike of the television show "Dancing With the Stars", as he claimed it was "not real dancing and they were breaking all the rules!" Ted proceeded to demonstrate the Argentine Tango in our front lobby and whirled our receptionist Laura around as is she weighed no more than a feather.

It is a gift when families choose to trust us with the care of their loved one, and I appreciate your kind words. I will pass your message on to the staff, and we keep you all in our thoughts at this difficult time.

Warmly,
Sarah

Ted was a great guy I often subbed in his game and played with him. He will be missed at Wycliffe. I can still remember his forehand drive which was one of his best shots. He was one of the better people I have run into at Wycliffe.
