William Heffernan Obituary
William J. Heffernan Jr., age 82 of West Haven passed away Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at Gaylord Hospital in Wallingford. He was the husband of Evelyn Dambakelis Heffernan. Father of William J. Heffernan III (Anne) and Katie Farrell (Raymond) of West Haven, Daniel C. Heffernan (Kristen) and Nancy Skerritt (Michael) of Orange. Grandfather of Anita and William Heffernan, Christina and Michael Skerritt, Aedan and Timothy Heffernan. Brother of Thomas Heffernan (Carol Jones), Former Probate Judge Michael Heffernan (Jane) and Robert Heffernan (Judy) all of West Haven and the late Gerald Heffernan. Also survived by his sister in law Susan Heffernan of Milford. He was the son of the late former Mayor William J. Heffernan Sr. and the late Genevieve Reynolds Heffernan. Bill received his degree from Georgetown University and post graduate degrees from Fairfield University. He was a social studies teacher for West Haven High School, retiring in 1992. He served in the U. S. Army in Korea. Bill was a lifetime member of the West Haven Elks, Lodge 1537 and Knight of Columbus in West Haven. He loved to play golf and card games with his family and friends.
The hours for visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 8pm at the West Haven Funeral Home at the Green. His funeral procession will leave the funeral home Friday morning at 10:30 for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 in Our Lady of Victory Church. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to the Gaylord Fund, 50 Gaylord Farm Road, Wallingford, CT. 06492. For online condolences please visit
