HAMPTON TWP. -- Kenneth S. Plotts, 100, died Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009, at his home on Plotts Road, where he had lived for the past 90 years.
Born in Newton, Mr. Plotts was a lifelong resident of Sussex County. He was a dairy farmer at his family owned farm on Plotts Road in Hampton Township. He sold the dairy farm in 1968, but continued to crop hay. Mr. Plotts was a former member of the Sussex County Milk Producer's Association and a former member of the First Presbyterian Church in Newton. He was an avid Yankees fan. In his younger years, he enjoyed bowling, deep sea fishing and hunting; and in his later years, he enjoyed gardening and mowing his lawn. He will be remembered as a Sussex County Historian, sharing stories about growing up in Sussex County.
The son of the late Clinton and Mae Plotts, Mr. Plotts was predeceased by his wife, Muriel Thomas Plotts, on Feb. 23, 2004; a twin sister, Mildred Plotts; and a sister, Emily Mazuy. He is survived by one son, Kenneth C. Plotts and his wife, Eileen, of Andover; four daughters, Kathleen Deckert and her husband, Eugene, of Hampton Township, Jean Brine of Newton, Debbie Plotts-Kellstrom and her husband, Gary, of Vernon, and Nancy Konzman and her husband, Patrick, of Union Dale, Pa.; eight grandchildren, Gene Deckert Jr. of Dingmans Ferry, Pa., Susan Pronesti of Montague, Steven Deckert and his wife, Kerry, of Sandyston, James Brine of Newton, Jennifer Brine-Godin and her husband, Lee, of Boonton, Kenneth Plotts Jr. of Newton, Adriane Leyman and her husband, Michael, of Westport, Wash., and Tucker Plotts and his wife, Margaret, of Andover; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High St., Newton. Interment will follow in Newton Cemetery. Visitation will be held today from 2:30 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
