Thomas Trevathan Obituary

Thomas E. "Tom" Trevathan August 23, 1935 - February 24, 2025 Thomas E. Trevathan, aka "Mr. T", was born August 23, 1935 in Norfolk, Virginia to Minnie E. Eger and William Edward Trevathan. He is survived by his wife Gail; half-brother Michael; son John; daughters Kathleen, Suzanne and Barbara; as well as seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Tom's parents were very young when he was born and as a result the marriage did not last long. Tom and his mother moved numerous times, and she worked very hard to make sure she could support her young son. Eventually they settled in Southern California where Tom graduated from Oxnard High School. From there he and his mother finally settled in Stanton, California.

Tom's first job was working for McDonnell-Douglas on the assembly line. He then went to work for what was then Standard Oil of California which later changed to Chevron. He started working in Standard Oil stations, later becoming a station manager and eventually moved into the corporate office as a Credit & Finance Officer. He retired from Chevron in the mid-1990's after 40 years of service.

It was during his time at Standard Oil/Chevron where Tom would meet his second wife, Gail. Throughout their careers with the same company, they kept crossing paths on the phone for work related matters. Eventually, Tom caught wind that Gail was unattached and so he called her up to visit. These phone conversations continued for some time until they eventually met in person for their first official date. They married three years later in 1985.

In 1996, Tom and Gail moved to Cle Elum where they built their dream home. Tom loved Cle Elum and said it was the best move he ever made. He loved the beautiful surroundings and the friendly people. In 2012, Tom survived a massive heart attack and as result had a 7-way bypass. He was only expected to live an additional five years, but he said his "guardian angel" was watching over him and he beat the odds. Tom thanked God every day for being so blessed with his wife of 39 years, his family and the friends that became a second family to him.

At his request, there will be no formal funeral service. His only wish is that his family and friends will celebrate his life and the time they spent with him.

The family would like to thank the KVH in Home Health Care and Hospice Care for their wonderful service, especially Laurie who was his nurse. They also would like to thank Jennifer Hyatt and Larry Buchanan for all the help they provided in helping meet Tom's and the family's needs.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Johnston & Williams of Cle Elum. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.johnston-williams.com
