Hae Chung Obituary

Chung

Hae Soo Chung, 80, passed away January 8, 2018. Born July 29, 1937 in what would become North Korea, her family fled south on foot during the Communist takeover. Surrounded by loving cousins, aunts, uncles, and her incredible mother, she thrived. She graduated from Yonsei University as part of Korea's first generation of professionally trained nurses. She taught at Yonsei, trained further at University of Minnesota, and worked at Toronto Sick Children's Hospital before marrying and moving to Cincinnati. At Cincinnati Children's Hospital, she became one of the country's first Korean pediatric nurse practitioners, obtained a Master's degree, and joined faculty at University of Cincinnati. There, she created Korea's first advanced practice nursing program, a unique Yonsei-UC collaboration. All her life, she embraced the role of caregiver—as nurse, mother, daughter, teacher, grandmother, and wife. She is predeceased by her loving husband In Young and survived by David, Paul, Carrie, Annie, Samantha, and Olivia. A memorial service will take place 11AM Saturday, January 13 at Korean Madisonville United Methodist Church, 6130 Madison Rd, Cincinnati, OH 45227.

Hae Soo was a client of mine for many years. I not only did her hair but she was a friend. A very kind and lovely lady that I will miss. My deepest sympathy to the Chung family. It is so strange that I found her obituary on the anniversary of her death. Peace be with you dear Hae Soo. Connie Kroos

David and Paul, we're so sorry for your loss. She made a lasting impression for us right after our oldest son was born (now 23). As new parents, we were still learning. She made great observations that impacted positively how we cared for our son. This advice stuck with us for many years. Our thoughts are with you and your family

I offer my sincerest condolences to David, Paul and Hae Soo's entire family. Hae Soo was my colleague, mentor and dear friend. She was lovingly devoted to her family and friends. Her life was one of many national and international accomplishments, however she always remained modest about herself. Although she will be greatly missed, her kind, gentle spirit and radiant smile will always be remembered.

With Sympathy,
