Alvin Donald "Silver Fox" Bailey Sr.

On Saturday, April 9, 2016, The Lord added another great musician to His Heavenly band. Mr. Alvin Donald Bailey, Sr. a renowned saxophonist, crossed into eternal life to be with the Lord. He was 81 years old. Alvin was a member of the Austerlitz Street Baptist Church. He was educated in the New Orleans Public Schools and attended Snowhill Institute. Earlier in his life Alvin played for Bill Synagogue Band, Roy "Good Rockin" Brown Band, Rhythm Aces" Band. Earl King, Ernie K-Doe, Smiley Lewis, and Bobby Mitchell. He leaves to cherish his memories, 2 children: Alvin Bailey, Jr. (Pamela) and Denithea Harrison (Asper); 9 grandchildren: Trenise McMillon, Sondtondra Winfield, Shonteé Smothers, Alisha Beard, Allison Houston, April Bailey, Alvin Bailey III, Aaron Bailey, and Aslynn Harrison; 15 great-grandchildren, 2 aunts: Henrietta Fletcher and Juanita Lewis; 3 godchildren: Shelia Fletcher, Tasha Boutte, Gayla Ferrell; and a host of other relatives, friends, and church members. He is preceded in death by his devoted wife, Janice P. Bailey, his parents: Celestan and Winifred Bailey, grandmother: Gertrude Trudehill, a daughter: Jalanda Bailey, son: Kevin Bailey, 3 uncles: Oscar, Percy, and Solomon, and 1 Aunt Corrine. Funeral Service will be held on Monday, April 18, 2016 at Austerlitz Street Baptist Church 819 Austerlitz Street at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Edward W. Parker Jr. Pastor and officiating.
