Andrew Reck Obituary
Andrew J. Reck, 93, passed away on April. 29, 2021, in New Orleans, LA. Dr. Reck was born in 1927 to the late Andrew and "Katie" Reck of New Orleans, LA. Dr. Reck was a Fulbright scholar and received his Bachelor's of Arts degree in 1947 from Tulane University; Master's of Arts from Tulane University in 1949, and his Ph.D. from Yale University in 1954. Dr. Reck also served in the United States Army. Dr. Reck was a member and President of Phi Beta Kappa. Dr. Reck was an American philosopher and Chairman of the Department of Philosophy at Tulane University. Dr. Reck retired as an emeritus professor from Tulane University after 45 years of dedicated service. Dr. Reck has been listed as a noteworthy philosopher by Marquis Who's Who. Dr. Reck is a former President of the Metaphysical Society of America. Dr. Reck has received numerous awards throughout his lifetime. Dr. Reck later married Elizabeth "Betty" Lassiter Reck in 1987. Both enjoyed long and productive careers by teaching and advising students, writing numerous books, grants, and research papers for publication and presentation. They both enjoyed traveling the world together. Dr. Reck is survived and will be dearly missed by his sister Rosemary Kaiser, niece Kim Prescott (Carl), Thurman "Rickey" Kaiser (Darian), and his great-nieces, Rachel and Krista Prescott, and Gabriella Kaiser, along with other extended family and friends. Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home is handling the arrangements and online condolences.

My heartfelt condolences to the family of Dr. Andrew J. Reck. Professor Reck was my master's thesis advisor and dissertation director. One of the reasons I chose graduate study in philosophy at Tulane was the department's highly regarded national reputation in American Philosophy that Professor Reck had established during his tenure as chair of the department. I will always remember him as a consummate scholar and someone who was always generous with his time as a mentor.

On behalf of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart Alumni Association and Brother Martin High School, I offer our prayers and condolences. We will say a Mass in his memory.
Father of all, we pray to you for Andrew, and for all those whom we love but see no longer. Grant to them eternal rest. Let light perpetual shine upon them. May his soul and the souls of all the departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
