Astoria Small Obituary

SMALL Astoria Louise Roussell Small, age 82, (the eldest daughter of 23 children) daughter of the late Sylvester (Piggy) and Augustine Harrison Roussell, departed this life on Thursday, March 9, 2006 at West Jefferson Medical Center, Marrero, LA. A native of Harvey, La., and a resident of Marrero for the past 26 years. Astoria was a member of the Evening Star Missionary Baptist Church. She was the loving mother of Gloria, Willie August, Percy, Debra and Terry Small, Jacquelyn, Elmo, Warren, Ernest, James, Morris and Cheryl Ann Burras, Bernadette Byrd, Brenda Dixon and the late Artimese Burras. Sister of August, Albert and Mary Roussell, Augustine Hines, Audrey Vaughan, Rose Thomas, and Verna Davis and the late, Sylvester, Jr., Morris, Percy, Willie, Elton, Lloyd, Raymond, Marvin and Ronald Roussell, Melvina, Dorothy and Annie Shirley Roussell. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildre and a host of nieces and nephews, (2) sons-in-law, (4) daughters-in-law, (2) brothers-in-law and (2) sisters-in-law. Relatives and friends, also Pastors, Officers and members of Evening Star B.C. Hope of Glory, New Zion and Mount Pilgrim Baptist Churches, Employees of Jeff Cap, West Jefferson, Children's Hospital, Jefferson Parish Water Works, C&C Marine, Dynamic Ind., and Elmwood Ind. are invited to attend the funeral service on Saturday, March 18, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the Evening Star Missionary Baptist Church, 817 Grefer Avenue, Harvey, LA. Interment Evening Star Cemetery No. 2. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home, 1020 Virgil Street, Gretna, LA is in charge of arrangements.
