Benjamin Russ

Benjamin Russ was called home, after a brief illness, on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at the age of 85. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry John and Venida Jasmine Russ. He was born in New Orleans, LA. and educated in the Catholic School System graduating from Xavier Prep High School. He held various jobs including employment by the New Orleans Sheriff's Department but had an entrepreneurial spirit and was a proprietor and owner of a local neighborhood grocery store. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Johnson-Russ: children, Linda Bartholomew, Constance Smallwood, Denise Edokpayi (Lugard) and Patricia Thomas, step daughter, Michelle Johnson: grandchildren, Dameion Russ (Jilena), Ashley Smallwood, Ashley, Jasmine, Jalyn and Lugard Edokpayi: step grandchildren, Dr. Ireal Fusco and Jeremy Johnson: 5 great grandchildren and 2 step great grandchildren: a loving sister and brother, Bertha Molison and Lawrence Russ. Also survived by a host of relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry John and Venida Jasmine Russ: brothers, Henry Rousell, Alec, Henry, Bertrand and Phillip Russ, also, a loving sister-in-law, Joyce Russ. Family and friends are invited to attend the Homegoing Celebration on Tuesday October 9, 2018 at Maria Goretti Catholic Church, 7300 Crowder Blvd, New Orleans, 70127.
