Blanche Hodges Kopfler

KOPFLER Blanche Hodges Kopfler, 95, a native and life long resident of Amite died at Landmark Nursing Home in Hammond on the afternoon of Monday, December 10, 2007. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred C. Kopfler, Sr., one son, Robert Michael; parents John Thomas Hodges and Grace Evelyn McDaniel; brothers Al, Morris, Earl, and Harold and sisters, Myra H. Peckover, Irene H. Brown, and Clare Hodges. She is survived by two sons; Fred C. Kopfler and his wife, Eliska of Folsom and Thomas E. Kopfler and his wife Sandra of Amite. Grand daughters, Eliska and her husband Daniel Plunkett of New Orleans, Gretchen and her husband Steve Parrill of Hammond, Jane DiGennaro, M.D. and her husband Andrea, Seattle, WA and Katherine Kopfler of Ashville, NC; Grandsons Fred C. Kopfler, III and his wife Rachel, Cincinnati, OH, John F. Kopfler, Covington and Thomas E. Kopfler, Jr., Los Angles, CA, Michelle Price, Bethel, MO, and Katie Hernandez Patrick, Queen Creek, AZ and 14 great grandchildren. Blanche's mother was born in Tontogonay, OH and moved with her father and stepmother when she was a young girl to Jacksonville, FL. She was the first female telephone operator in Jacksonville. She met and married John Thomas Hodges who was born in Jasper, FL, in Jacksonville where he was in the candy business. They moved to Gainesville, FL, then to Hammond, where they operated an ice cream parlor and finally just prior to 1900 they moved to Amite where they operated a Hodges Bakery for many years.
