Brian Shepler Obituary

Brian Allen Shepler passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 10, 2016. He was 44 years old. Beloved partner and fiancé of Michael DeMarco. Loving son of Jeanne Larson Heffron and the late Scott Allen Shepler. Brother of Eric Shepler (Michelle). Grandson of the late Verne and Edith Wilcott, Richard P. Larson, Marietta B. Wall, and Scott A. Shepler. Son-in-law of Cindy Bluhm and Kenny DeMarco. Brother-in-law of Kenny DeMarco, Jr. (Katey) and Vinnie DeMarco (Kellie Weisler). Uncle of Courtney Shepler, Madison Shepler, Kamryn DeMarco, Kailyn DeMarco, and Alexander Shepler. Nephew of John Disano and Dan Shepler (Sarah). Also survived by many loving cousins, friends, and coworkers. Brian was a native on La Mesa, California, and for the past 3 1/2 years has called New Orleans his home. As a tenured paramedic, he devoted his live to serving and caring for the critical medical needs of others, courageously placing their well-being far above his own. He was a talented amateur brewer of craft beer, and also loved the Mardi Gras season and all of the celebrations that go along with it. Brian enjoyed the outdoors, and graciously adopted three rescue dogs: Tater, Fern, and Stewie, and a cat, Fiona. He was also an avid Seahawks (and Saints) fan. His selfless contributions to society will certainly be missed by all. Relatives and friends of the family, as well as his fellow first responders, are invited to attend the Funeral Ceremony from LEITZ-EAGAN Metairie, 4747 Veterans Memorial Boulevard, on Tuesday morning, February 16, 2016 at 11:00. Visitation will begin at 9:00. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Brian's name to the National EMS Memorial Service and the Jefferson Parish Animal Shelter. An online guestbook is available at www.leitzeaganfuneralhome.com.

In this crazy world of EMS, you saved countless lives. In the process, you touched the lives of MORE than just the patients... You impacted all those in uniform around you as well. Your smile and humor were unmatched. Please keep shining the bright joy down upon us all...

I can still hear him asking, when a patient told him they felt "funny", " Funny ha ha or funny hmmm?". We have lost a great man who was loved by so many and made his mark by sharing his knowledge of Paramedicine with so many.

To one of the most amazing people I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. Brian told me many years ago to embrace who I am flaws and all and I watched him live that example over and over again. Rest easy Princess, you will never be forgotten!

We crossed on scene a few times. It's a pity our exchanges were usually short, I usually figure there are other times for pleasantries.
Your watch has ended. I'm happy to pick it up a few hours so your friends and family may say their final farewells.

I never had the pleasure of knowing you Brian, and that was my loss. I do however, remember crossing paths with you at scenes. You were always very professional and a good medic. My heart goes out to your family and your EMS family as well. There is another outstanding medic in heaven who was taken too soon.
