Carol Logan Obituary

Carol Virginia Mary Logan: NEE: Freeman, Age 80, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on October 13, 2017 after an extended illness followed by brief hospice care near New Orleans. She was born in St. Joseph, MI., the only child of Joseph and Pauline Freeman. The family lived in Stevensville, MI. Carol's half-sister, Margaret (Avis) Morrisey NEE: Freeman and her large family resided in Chicago, IL. Carol was educated at Stewart Elementary School in Stevensville; St. Joseph Catholic High School (1955 Grad with honors); Benton Harbor Community College; and received her Bachelors Degree in elementary education (with honors) from Michigan State University, 1959. In 1956 she was elected ""Beauty Queen"" of Stevensville"" and represented the city in the annual south-western Michigan Blossom Festival. Carol was active in numerous clubs and organizations earning many accolades including: Bocage Homemakers Group; Buena Vista Counsel; Federated Council of New Orleans (Woman of the Year 2008), Fleur Del Lis; Louisiana Garden Club and St. Andrews Ladies Guild. She served as a Lector, Master Gardener, Substitute Teacher, seamstress, and piano player. She loved to travel and live all over the world thanks to her husband's job. Carol never knew a stranger. Carol was married for 59 wonderful years to Fred L. Logan, the son of long time St. Joseph residents Lytton and Doris Logan (deceased) and grandson of Fred A. Potter, city druggist, at St. Joseph, MI. She is survived by her husband Fred, daughters Cynthia (Mark) Voorhies of VA, Deborah Logan, Kathleen (Richard, Jr.) Murray of LA, Kristine (Daniel) Roman of IA, and seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and numerous other family members. She is preceded in death by her parents and her half-sister. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, 3101 Eton Avenue, New Orleans, LA on Friday, November 10, 2017 at 11:00 AM. Visitation with the family will begin at 9:00 AM. Interment will be private at a later date. A celebration of her life will be held at One Stone, 323 Verret St., New Orleans, LA from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM; friends and family are welcome. In lieu of flowers the family requests any donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association or charity of your choice. You may also donate to Carol Logan's Krewe for the 2017 Walk to End Alzheimer's November 11, 2017 in New Orleans at: act.alz.org/goto/Deborah-logan.
