Charles Hilliard Obituary

Mr. Charles R. Hilliard, Sr. entered into eternal rest on August 28, 2021. Born on August 1, 1954, to Gladys Dorothy Dean Hilliard and Rufus Starch in Wesson, Mississippi. Charles lived in Mississippi as a child where he was reared by his grandmother, Gladys Hilliard. Then, he moved to New Orleans, Louisiana where he graduated from Alcee Fortier in 1973. A few years after graduating, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp and served as a military police officer. After his honorable discharge, he began his career as a truck driver where he faithfully served for over 30 plus years until he was forced to retire due to his health conditions. He is preceded in death by his father, Rufus Starch, his grandparents, Gladys and Wylie Hilliard, Sr., and his father-in-law, Freddie Battie, Jr. Charles leaves to cherish his memories his loving and devoted wife of 27 years, Attorney Hester R. Hilliard, his mother, Gladys Dorothy Dean Hilliard Martin, his children, Kelly Hillard, Catherine Gloston (Carvase) Perrilloux, Freddie (Lakesha) Gloston, Sr., Cathy Hilliard, Charles Hilliard, Jr., and Catina Hilliard, his brothers, Edward and Troy Jackson, his mother-in-law, Catherine A. Gloston, a devoted sister-in-law, Octavia Gloston (Christopher) Scott, 15 grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. A Funeral Service will be held at The Boyd Family Funeral Home, 5001 Chef Menteur Hwy, New Orleans, LA on Wednesday, September 15, 2021, for 10:00 a.m. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. Interment will Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, Slidell, Louisiana.
