Charles Hunt of Albany died Sunday at Bridgecreek Alzheimer's Care Community in Lebanon. He was 91.
He was born in Spokane, Wash., to Charles and Jesse Pearl Grannis Hunt. The family moved to Klamath Falls in the 1920s, and he grew up there. He entered the Army during the Depression and served in the Pacific Theatre and in the Philippines. He was a POW and escaped into the mountains of the Philippines for six months until being rescued. He served at the US Embassy in France and in several US locations, including California.
He married Roberta Edwards in 1945 in Long Beach, Calif. They later divorced. He married Helen Van Doren in 1982 in Yosemite, Calif. She preceded him in death in 1999.
Upon his discharge from the Army, he worked for Lockheed in Sunnyvale, Calif. He moved to Albany in 1999 and lived in Lebanon since 2001.
He was an avid square dancer and was active with the Masonic Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Della Mizer and Linda Jessie Hunt; half-brother Bob Kennedy; and sister Beatrice Amaureux.
He is survived by his son Tom of Albany; his sister Elaine Kerns of Klamath Falls; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A private family service will be held. Inurnment will follow at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.
