Daphine Dufour Obituary

Daphine G. Dufour passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at the age of 96. She was preceded in death by her beloved lifelong husband, Paul Dallas Dufour; her parents, Drucie Jeansonne Gaspard and Forest Joseph Gaspard; her son, Ronald P. Dufour; sister, Mildred G. Arceanaux; and her grandson, Derrick Michael Dufour. She is survived by her children, Brian P. Dufour (Jeannine), Bridget D. Lombardo (Earl); her daughter-in-law, Elodie Dufour; 10 grandchildren, Ronnie Dufour, Jr., Chris Dufour, Wayne White, T.J. Dufour, Paul Dufour, Heather Runnels, Aimee Vaughn, Earl Lombardo III, Marcus Dufour, and Lacey Lombardo; 16 great-grandchildren: Christina Dufour, R.J. Runnels, Alexandra Dufour, Abby Dufour, Megan White, Josh Dufour, Gage Dufour, Avery Guercio, Connor White, Maddox Dufour, Luke Vaughn, Charlotte Vaughn, Wyatt Dufour, Alco Lombardo, Evie Lombardo, and Aubrey Dufour; her siblings, Fred Gaspard and Barbara Cook; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mom's angel that took care of her needs all the time and worried when she wasn't there with her was her caregiver, Dianne Jones. In her early years, Daphine worked on the farm with her mom and dad until she married Paul and relocated to the New Orleans area. She worked as a 1st class welder for Higgins Shipyard during World War II and then became a homemaker and housewife, where she loved to cook and clean. She made the best sweet tea and was known for her dirty rice, cornbread, and potato salad. Whenever her grandchildren came over, she had homemade pallets she made from her quilts for them to lay on. She was a proud Catholic and always would pray the Rosary for others when they were in need or sick. After her husband passed away, Daphine went back to school for her GED and began working part-time at Ochsner as a typist and watched kids when needed. Relatives and friends are invited to the visitation at Garden of Memories Funeral Home & Cemetery, 4900 Airline Drive Metairie, LA 70001 on Monday, July 19, 2021 from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm and also on Tuesday, July 20, 2021 from 8:30 am until Mass time. My earliest memory was some 39 years ago when she saved Kay and I´s infant,Jamie. She was not breathing and Kay screamed out and Aunt Daphine came running and without hesitation inserted her finger into Jamie´s throat and cleared mucus from her airway and the purple color of her face started fading and returning to normal as her ability to breath returned. That was almost 40 years ago and she´s been there for all of my family since. With the deepest love and despair I wish you peace and tranquility on your journey in Heaven.
