Denise Marie Rita Reinecke

1927 - 2023

Denise Marie Rita Reinecke died April 26, 2023, in New Orleans after a short illness. Miss Reinecke was born December 19, 1927, in New Orleans and lived there until moving to Metairie three years ago. Miss Reinecke attended St. Joseph Academy and earned a bachelor's from Newcomb College and a master's degree from Tulane. She was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. A native of the Seventh Ward, she spoke French as her first language and taught the language for more than 40 years at Louise S. McGehee School. She was a passionate reader and music lover, and enjoyed bird-watching, traveling, and exercising. She was a longtime member of Les Causeries du Lundi and sang in several church choirs, including those at St. Patrick's Church and at Our Lady of the Rosary Church, where she was a parishioner for many years. Miss Reinecke is survived by her brother, John A. Reinecke (Gladys Aleman) and sister-in-law Marie Duvic Reinecke, as well as 14 beloved nieces and nephews, 26 great-nieces and -nephews, and 5 great-great-nieces and -nephews, who all affectionately knew her as their "Nanny." She was preceded in death by her mother, Mariette Sarrat Reinecke, father Joseph Alfred Reinecke Jr., brothers George F. Reinecke and Richard B. Reinecke (Anne Barnes), stepmother Edna S. Reinecke, and nephew, George A. Reinecke. Services will be held June 3 at Jacob Schoen and Son Funeral Home, 3827 Canal St., with a visitation beginning at 11 a.m. and a funeral Mass at noon.
