Don Caruso Obituary

Don Ray Caruso passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 28, 2022 at the age of 69. His final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that he had touched in some way throughout his very memorable life. He was the beloved husband of 45 years to Cheryl Schlesinger Caruso. Loving father of Mark Caruso (Megan Lilly Caruso) and Michelle Caruso Meyer (PJ Meyer). Son of the late Dolores R. Caruso and Pascal Caruso. Brother of the late Patricia C. McInnis. Proud grandfather of Landon Meyer, Cole Caruso, Carson Meyer, Isla Caruso, Easton Meyer, Luca Caruso, Hudson Meyer and Baby Boy Caruso. He is also survived and fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Don was born in New Orleans, LA and was a longtime resident of St. Bernard Parish before settling in Slidell, LA following hurricane Katrina. He was a devoted and lovable friend to all. His passion for firefighting was surpassed only by the love for his children and his grandchildren were the light of his life. He was the jack of all trades and mastered them all. He enjoyed a career as a crane operator with Boh Bros and dedicated 28 years to the Fire Department. He was a commercial fisherman, taxidermist and wood carver. There was nothing he couldn't do when faced with a challenge. Most of all, he loved spending time in the woods or on the water, hunting and fishing with his friends and family. The last 2.5 years of Don's life was spent battling cancer. Although Don's illness made him appear frail, he possessed strength, perseverance, and an ability to overcome incredible odds and physical challenges. His courage has led us to believe that each day is a blessing and an opportunity to create lasting memories. Don was well loved and affectionately known for his loving nature and very generous heart. He will be forever remembered as a loving and loyal husband, father, grandfather and brother, who treasured his family. He will be deeply missed by his family and by all those whose lives he touched. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial gathering to be held at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Thursday, June 9 from 9:00 am – 1:00 pm, followed by a celebration of Don's life beginning at 1:00 pm. A procession in honor of Don's memory will take place following the chapel service. All are welcomed to join. To view and sign the Family Guestbook, please visit www.stbernardmemorial.com.

What can I say ?
I'M Heart broken !!
I Lost one of my best friends
The guy who was always there to help
my brother from the fire service
my hunting and fishing buddy
Memories ? where do I begin ?
From hunting and fishing here where we live to chasing animals all over the country. Every time we left the house was an adventure, whether we were a mile from the house or over a thousand miles away, we had a blast. The constant reminders are hanging all over my Man Cave. I would have to write a book to relate it all to you.
Then there's the taxidermy work. the projects that kept us busy after the hunting season and in between fishing trips.
Our daily gathering in the garage to ASSIST the guy who had to make the animals look ALIVE !!!!
Then off for a quick lunch before getting back to our daily lives.
The guy who when your grand kids killed their first animal insisted PAW PAW DON had to mount it for them AND HE DID !!!!
R.I.P Don, the fight is over, the pain is over, its only been a week and I MISS YOU LIKE CRAZY, hope to see you again one day to continue our adventure.
Until I get there, KILL A BIG ONE !!!
LOVE YA, UBER AL
