Ellen Gandle Obituary

Ellen Loeb Gandle, M.D., age 54, a native and lifelong resident of New Orleans died at her home on Friday evening, February 27, after a lengthy illness. A practicing psychiatrist, she graduated from Isidore Newman School and received her B.A. from Emory University in Atlanta. She returned to New Orleans to attend Tulane University School of Medicine. Her residency included work in General Psychiatry at Ochsner Hospital, followed by a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Tulane University, and in Forensic Psychiatry at LSU. She maintained a practice until her illness. She was a former board member of the Jewish Community Center and Jewish Family Service, a member of Touro Synagogue, and numerous professional associations. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Bruce Gandle, her daughter Alexandra Gandle, and her son Peter Gandle, and her parents Sharon O. and Milton J. Loeb. She is predeceased by her sister Jesslyn L. Schilling. Also survived by multitudes of loving relatives and friends. Funeral services will take place at Touro Synagogue, 4238 St. Charles Ave., on Monday, March 2, 2015 at 1pm. Friends may visit the family from 12 noon until time of service. Internment in Hebrew Rest Cemetery #3 (Frenchmen at Pelopidas). Kindly omit flowers. Memorials to charity of choice preferred. What a tremendous loss to this world is Dr. Gandle. She was my son's doctor for 16 years. I feel as if I've lost a co-parent. She is most assuredly going to be missed, and missed profoundly. Our deepest condolences to the family.

I'm heartbroken to hear. We haven't been in touch lately, but have shared cards and pictures of our children growing up. A close friend in high school, I had many a lunch in the Loeb's kitchen. My condolences to all of you.
