A good and decent man.
Clearly a cut above. Not a hypocritical bone in his body.
A class act. Always had a firm grip on our school, but never smothered our individuality and that was during the late 60's. The student body loved and respected Mr. Barkate. He lived the life he taught. I truly believe he loved every student that passed through Sam Houston High School, and followed their careers thereafter.
Mr. Barkate will be loved, missed, but never forgotten.

Mr. Barkate was really a great man. while I was at Sam Houston High, he really made it an effort to keep me, along with others on the right track. Was always far & always willing to hear what we had to say. I owe him a lot. I know he will be missed by all. RIP, my Principal!

Condolences to all of Gabe's family. I had the privilege of getting to know Gabe through our work on the Retired Teachers' CCRTA Board. He and my dad...Marion Vallee were friends for a long time through their work in the retired teachers organization...and their work as educators. He was a fine man and a friend to all. Peace and blessings to all of you. Joan Vallee-Rettke
