I remember Dr. Usdin from his classes at Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans in the mid 1960s. He was a good teacher.

I was sorry to hear about your father's passing. I always enjoyed talking to him when I would see him walking his dog or getting the paper in the morning. I have fond memories of him taking the entire neighborhood for snowballs. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Dear Cathy, Linda, Stephen (Stevie), and Tommy,
On behalf of the Caffery's may I say how much your entire family has touched ours. We truly grew up together, and had many, many great times with you and Cecile and Gene. Gene's smiles, sparkling eyes, and positive/inquisitive attitude towards life will always be a part of me. Our prayers are with you all.
Love you,

The Usdin family has always been admired and respected because Cecile and Gene have been an example of the perfect marriage.
For years Dr. Usdin has been a source of strength to my family in dealing with mental illness. His kindness and understanding and much needed advice have made a big difference in my ability to cope with this tragic illness.
For his beautiful family, please accept my sincere understanding and loving concern in your great loss.

I worked with Dr. Usdin for several years on the book review section of Psychiatric Times. He was quite a character! One time, right after Mardis Gras, he sent me an entire box filled with Mardis Gras necklaces and coins -- I still have them on display in my living room.
My deepest sympathies.

I was Gene's first cousin related to him on his mother's side of the family. Over the years I tried to keep in contact with him either by phone, or in person during my frequent visits with my family to New Orleans. He was the last surviving member of my parent's generation, and he will be sorely missed. I have many photos of him with his family that I would be glad to share with his family, and friends. I even have a genealogical map of the Usdin family tracing back to the 1700's.

Michael and I fondly remember a night that Gene and Cecile spent with us here at our home in NC. He reminisced about trips to Hendersonville when he was younger and a good time was had by all. Our deepest sympathy to you all, Kay Rapier
