George Dorsey Jr. Obituary

George "Paul" Dorsey Jr. passed away at 77 on Thursday, November 7, 2024. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen P. Dorsey; his two sons, George P. Dorsey III and Kirk P. Dorsey; his daughter, Adrianne Dorsey Parkey (Joshua); his three granddaughters, Claire Dorsey, Lauren Dorsey, and Billie Parkey; his five grandsons, George P. Dorsey IV, Nolan Dorsey, Louis Dorsey, Boyd Parkey, and Bradley Parkey; his two brothers, Lee C. Dorsey (Gayle) and Marc G. Dorsey; sister-in-law, Mary D. Dorsey; and his beloved extended family. He was preceded in death by his father, George P. Dorsey; his mother, Marie Louise Clemmer Dorsey; his brother, Philip J. Dorsey; his sister-in-law, Moira C. Dorsey; and his nephew, Brad Dorsey. Born in New Orleans on January 10, 1947, Paul graduated from St. Aloysius High School in 1964. He then earned a B.S. in Physics ('70) and a Master of Business Administration from Tulane University ('73). Paul and his soulmate, Kathy, met in biology class ('71) and shared 51 years of marriage. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was passionate about traveling the world with his wife and their friends. Paul enjoyed many vacations in Destin, Florida, and weekends at "Camellia Hill" in Folsom, Louisiana, caring for their animals. He also loved spending peaceful evenings fishing on Lake Borgne. Paul was a proud Young Presidents Organization (YPO Gold) member for 25 years and an active member of the Phoenix Forum. Paul was an entrepreneur with an instinct for business opportunities. In January of 1976, with just a handful of investors, he formed Founders Federal Savings and Loan, which later became First Federal Savings Bank. He also served on the board of First National Bank of St. Bernard. As a successful real estate developer, he was involved in many projects, including the first drive-through Starbucks in Orleans and St. Bernard Parishes. He also redeveloped the historic corner of Canal and City Park Avenue into Morning Call and Bud's Broiler. Additionally, he developed some notable subdivisions, including Oak Ridge Park, St. Gertrude Heights, and Fairfield Oaks. He pioneered multiple condominium conversion projects, such as Regency Park Condominiums, 7444 St. Charles Ave Condominiums, Tree Tops Condominiums, and many others. Paul was instrumental in the guidance and development of the St. Christopher Hotel and the Kenner Airport Casino. He established the Historic Quarter House resort in the French Quarter, now in its 42nd year of success. He has recently participated in many other real estate ventures with his son, George P. Dorsey III. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd in New Orleans, on Thursday, November 14, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 p.m. The interment will follow in Metairie Cemetery.

Paul is a great man. I have had only a short time to get to know him, we have spoken many times. He and I were friends, and I will truly miss him. May he rest with God and peace be with his family.

I went to school with Paul (I´m sorry, but he´ll always be Paul to me) from kindergarden through high school. Not sure I´ve seem him since except at reunions, where I last saw and talked to him at our 60th just a few weeks ago. He did not mention his illness.
Blame for not doing a better job of keeping up with Paul is mainly due to my living in other states, but I still should have made the effort. That´s my loss. So sorry for yours.
