I would like to send my belated condolences to the family and friends of Dr George Haik Jr. I was a collaborator in cataract research with George in the 1990s and 2000s, and thereafter we had occasional correspondence. The last time George messaged me was in January 2021 and I only learned of his passing today. We have 6 research publications together.
I would like to say that George was a kind, considerate, engaging colleague and friend. One of the very best! He was an enthusiastic and resourceful collaborator - always keen to advance cataract research and hear the latest laboratory news. It was my pleasure to meet him in New Orleans in 2003 whilst attending a conference when we had a delightful and memorable dinner together.
It was a great pleasure to have known George and shared our common interests in cataract research. Like some many, my life has been enriched from knowing him, for which I feel truly blessed.
My sincere condolences,
Paul

I am very late in offering my condolences, but count me as one of the many of Dr. Haik's patients for whom he will be greatly missed and upon whom he made a tremendous impression.
I had been seeing Dr. Haik for over a decade -- since when I moved to New Orleans. Not only was he a spectacular physician and meticulous in his attention to detail and care for his patients, but he and I exchanged communications about scientific and medical publications of mutual interest. He was a true intellect and a lifelong learner.
I was greatly saddened to hear of his passing, and my condolences to his friends and family. My very best wishes to all of you.

Dr. George Haik was the best eye doctor I have ever had. I've had vision problems for over 50 years and he was unsurpassed. He will be greatly missed.

I am very sad to hear of Dr. Haik Jr. passing. He was the kindest and most patient doctor. He treated you as if you were his only patient. He always had time to talk about any issue. He clearly explained any issue and would take the time to discuss anything you needed to talk about. He was always up on the latest information and was just wonderful. After I moved from New Orleans for a time, I flew back regularly for my eye exams. He will be dearly missed and very hard to replace as an eye doctor.

I would like to extend my deepest sympathy to the family of Dr. Haik. I was truly saddened when I learned of his passing. Dr. Haik was a wonderful doctor who always treated me with respect and kindness. He was extremely thorough, patient, knowledgeable and a perfect gentleman. He set the bar so high that it will be difficult to ever find another eye doctor that will ever compare to him. He will be sadly missed. Thank you Dr. Haik for the lovely conversations - you were a special treasure! May God bless you.

We were friends at Country Day. A frequent guest at his home, I had the pleasure of knowing his family. Maybe this will be news: He introduced me to my future wife in 1975 at Pat O'Brien's! He tapped a girl on her shoulder & said 'My friend wants to meet you.' I guess he was a prophet! Pam & I married four years later. We enjoyed 50th CD reunion visit with George & most recent get-together Mardi Gras 2018 (photo). Of course hoped to see him again. Best wishes, sincere condolences & prayers to his family.

Dear family of Dr. Haik:
I am so sad that Dr. Haik left you and all of us so soon and so unexpectedly. I just visited his clinic on August 26th, and expected that I would see him again soon. As always, he fully and carefully examined my eyes, offered me options for next steps, and wrote out the Rx for my next set of glasses. He was always thorough and precise in his approach to his patients. As his patient, he always made me feel that my needs were primary and that he would take time to make sure he offered me the right information and diagnosis. It was so reassuring to know that I could rely on his expertise and care. I cried when I learned of his passing. I know you must miss him deeply, as he was a very special man. Please know that, as his patient, I too will miss him and I know that his other patients will too. May he rest in peace.
With deepest sympathy,
Sue Laporte

Please accept my deepest sympathy. George and I were good friends in high school and kept in touch throughout our college years. We lost touch as we started our careers, married and had children. George and I reconnected during our 50th high school reunion and have gotten together a few times since then when I was in town. As it usually happens, we said that we would get together more often than we actually did. A flood of memories now come back. He will be missed.

We are very saddened to hear of George Jr.'s passing. We have never met a more dedicated family of doctors. And never more caring. Even to the point of giving us their home phone numbers. George Sr. treated Wesley Jr,s mom, and then Wesley Jr. For retino blastoma. He removed Wesley,s eye. Then our son, Wesley III, was treated by George Ellis. This family has done extensive research on this disease. Since this was the first family to have it 3 consecutive generations. Then George Jr. Began seeing us after Dr. Ellis passed. We even flew to New York to see Barrett in 1985. But our son was spared. It was not the tumor growing again. Our son, Wesley III(Trigger) was to see George Jr on the 22nd of Sept. He cried,as we did when we heard what happened. Please know that your family is in our prayers.

I am so sorry to hear about the passing of Dr. Haik. I grew up across the street and played with him and George III on a daily basis for years. He was an incredibly fun and imaginative personality. I owe to them both my love for all of the James Bond movies, which we watched from start to finish. I will also never forget the "spy missions" he would make up for George III and I to execute across the Tulane campus not far away. He was always teaching us about the world around us and I am grateful for the time I spent with him. To his family and friends I offer my deepest condolences. May he rest in peace.
