Mr. Ursin, I always called you the "Godfather". You gave a little Black kid a chance to become the "Napkin King". The Fairmont wasn't just a Hotel. It was a College & a University. I'll always love and respect you. You're the Greatest Catering Director ever. you will be sadly missed forever.

My deepest simpathy to the family... Very sorry for you loss. I has the pleasure to work with Mr. Ursin while working at the Fairmont. He was an Outstanding human being. My favorite weddings were the ones he was directly involved--nothing but the best! He was very kind. It was a pleasure to have known him.

My name is Rod Soldani...I was a young Banquet Mgr. at Fairmont 10yrs ago and Mr. Jerry , well.. he was an executive , but was a regular approachable guy ,I am now in a similar position and I also try to have that same style...maybe it will work for me as long as it did for Mr. Jerry

Jerry: I am so saddened by the loss of your Dad. I lost my Dad, who gave 41+ years to law enforcement, just after Katrina and it is the loss of a lifetime. Your kindness to me, when we worked together at NOPD (65) and were partners in EMT classes, will always be uppermost in my thoughts. Dear Ursin Family,
So many of us were lucky indeed to have Mr. Ursin in our lives, and we will miss him. He taught us all much, and we will strive to carry on his legacy in teaching those who follow the true meaning of hospitality. No one did it better than Mr. Ursin - he had a way about him that did make the big problems we all created become “no problem”. No one could pull off the unending feats that Mr. Ursin made look simple. Thank you for sharing this amazing man with us. Your family will remain in our prayers.

He was a very good friend and the best BOSS you could ever ask for. I have been away from New Orleans for quite sometime and lost touch with him. I had just recently tried to call Mardi Gras Productions to reach him and couldn't. Now I am so heartbroken. He was the BEST in the industry, the BEST father, grandfather and person. I was very honored to know him. I loved him very much. My condolences to his family. It is such a GREAT Loss. He always told me he could only play golf and fish so much - the love of his career and his family was endless. I am currently living in Las Vegas working at the Mandalay Bay Hotel - still using all the knowledge that this great man taught me in the Catering/Hospitality world. Ursin Family,
Mr. Ursin is on God's sofa in heaven. I have never met a more genuine person with a work ethic that was contagious. He helped me get into the hospitality industry at the Fairmont by knowing a dear family friend of ours that new of a position... I thank him for helping me find my way in my career and being such a presence of goodness. He will always be thought of as a true gentleman in every way.

Ginger-Jerry Jr and the entire Ursin family--I know speak for so many in the Fairmont Family-especially those in New Orleans who are so saddened by this.He mentored me and so many others---He was like a 2nd dad to me
We had many laughs over the years---me being from Jesuit and the Chief -a proud Warren easton eagle Grad.Told him that was his only blemish
The truth be known--he spent more time in the Jesuit Church on Baronne Street than any alum--more than many of the priests.We know he;'s up in Heaven
There are so many fond memories--Police escorted Mardi Gras Parades through the Quarter---Horses in the Imperial ballroom for PCMA---baked Alaska Flambe with the Olympia Brass Band---and so many Mardi Gras Balls and Supper Dances. We all worked many long hours.He made it fun--and you wanted to deliver for the "Chief"
I only wish i could be there in person today.I know speak for so many that can't be there.Your entire family and the Chief will be in all of our thoughts and prayers

Ginger -Jerry Jr and the entire Ursin Family----I know i speak for many in the Fairmont Family -especially in New Orleans.The Chief was one of a kind.he was a wonderful mentor and role model to me--would not be where I am for the work ethic he instilled in all of us
I used to tease him--the only blemish he had ---was he was a warren Easton man--we had many fun discussion through the years about Jesuit /Warren easton.He spent more time in the Jesuit Church then most of all of us Jesuit Alums and maybe even Priests
No one could stop traffic in the city for a convention Mardi Gras Party like the Chief.I will fondly rememeber the Baked Alaska Flambes--Horses in the Ballroom---Mardi Gras Balls--so many wonderful memories from so many that put in long hours--because they wanted to for the" Man"

It is with fond memories that I remember working with Jerry Ursin. He was so instrumental in making Abbott Tours so successful during those early days that I cid not really get a chance to say thank you for everything. He will be missed and thought of throughout the years as a leader in the Food and Beverage industry. My deepest sympathy to his family.

I worked a function at the hotel once and your father brought me and the other Officers to the kitchen and told the staff to take care of us, "anything they want." Our meeting was brief, but in that short span I could appreciate the type of gentleman your father was. May he rest in peace.

As a young man working at the Fairmont, I was fortunate to work with Mr. Ursin. He was the very best at what he did, and he taught me the definition of truly great service. And he was a friend to me...always willing to help, fixing my mistakes, (I always thought we had more meeting rooms) and of course showing good humor at the antics of Leo and I. I still think of him often. To the Ursin family, I am deeply sorry for your loss.
