Gloria Rose Smith Mitchell – November 18, 1929 – May 15, 2023. Gloria Mitchell (Maumee), a lifelong resident of New Orleans, transitioned Monday at age 93. Beloved daughter to the late Andrew Smith & Celeste Fifee Smith & preceded in death by husband Stanley Joseph Mitchell, Sr, daughters Coritha (Rita) Anderson & Marie (Tiny) Dorsey, & grandson Gaspard Joseph Dear. Survived by her children Stanley Jr, Orren Sr, Capt. Robert Mitchell Sr, Waldeen Mitchell, Brenda Mitchell-Dear (NC), & Wynoka Branch. Sister of the late Andrew Smith Jr, Catherine Augustine, Beverly (Oliver) Sennett, Audrey (Matthew) Clivens-Bailey; survived by sisters Albertha Sanders, Mary (Ronald) Peters (PA), & Peola(Vernell)Smith-Smith (MA). Sons-in-law Irvin Anderson Jr, Robert Dear Sr, & daughter-in-law Linye Mitchell. Grandmother to Florence Anderson, Shawn Anderson, Gloria Boyd, Quanise Thomas, Orren Mitchell Jr, Stanley Rockett, Gordon Mitchell Sr, Sermika Mitchell, Robert Mitchell Jr, William Mitchell-Gasquet, Robert Dear Jr, Nadia Mitchell, Byron Mitchell, Cierra Mitchell, Ian-Mitchell Dear, Rita Dear, Lloyd Branch Jr, & Jonathan Branch, 31 great grand, & 7, great-great-grandchildren. We want to acknowledge members & employees of Galatoire's Restaurant, where she retired after 55 years of service, Lafon Nursing Facility of the Holy Family, Sewerage & Water Board of New Orleans, City of New Orleans Bureau of Revenue, New Orleans Steamboat Company, Post Office Employees Credit Union, Delta Air Lines, & Dillard University. Gloria's memorial mass will be at St. James Major Church at 3736 Gentilly Blvd. New Orleans, Louisiana 70122 on Saturday, May 27, 2023, at 10:00 am, where she was a member.
