GODFREY JOHNSON

Godfrey "Chick" Johnson peacefully entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at the age of 99 years old. He was born in Wallace, LA to Anthony and Aldonia Johnson. He was educated in the St. John the Baptist Parish Public Schools. He joined the United States Army in 1941 and was sent to Europe during WWII. He served out his term and received an honorable discharge. He was proud of his service and enjoyed talking about his experiences overseas. He was retired from Avondale Shipyards. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Doris Johnson, stepson Billy O'Neal, grandmother, aunts and a devoted cousin Fred Grant. In addition to his only daughter Carolyn Russ (Benjamin) he also leaves to mourn his granddaughters: Michelle Johnson, Keeva Johnson, Erica Smith and Brittany Wallace, great granddaughter Ireal Fusco (Tony) of Miami, FL, great grandson Jeremy Johnson, devoted sister-in-law Eunice Smith, devoted cousin-in-law Carolyn (Kathleen) Grant, a devoted friend, Ricky Madere and a host of cousins, relatives and friends. Family and friends are invited to his Homegoing Celebration on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at Israel Baptist Church, 2826 Jackson Ave., NOLA for 10:00 A.M. Visitation will begin at 9:00 A.M. Rev. Malcolm Bacchus, officiating. Interment will follow at Woodville Cemetery, Wallace, LA.
