Helen Lang Obituary

Helen Claire Defourneaux Lang (December 7, 1946 - January 23, 2024) The heavenly life of Helen Lang began on January 23, 2024. Born December 7, 1946 in Jefferson, Louisiana as the second of five children to Jerome F. Defourneaux Sr. and Esther Zeller Defourneaux. Her legacy continues through her husband, Lloyd, of 56 years and her children Bradford (Doreen), Douglas (Wendy), and Mary Elizabeth Alfonso (Adam). All of her joy for her children magnified as she became "Maw-Maw" & "Roxy" to her 8 grandchildren Justin, Joshua, Jordan, Jillian, Brendan, Rhett, Romie, and Reid and 2 great-grandchildren, Cullen and Carson. She attended St. Agnes Catholic School and St. Stephen High School. They were parishioners of St. Christopher the Martyr Catholic Church for 50+ years where they were heavily involved in the School Board, CYO, TEC, and Marriage Encounter Program, just to name a few. In the early years, Helen met Lloyd working at Jahncke Services, Inc. Her journey then brought her to the Quickrete family where she worked for several years before taking priority as the role of Mother. Through the years, she carved her work out of her passions. This included her time in the New Orleans Tourism Industry with Custom Conventions and her own business, Creative Designs, where she originated her own New Orleans center pieces and gift concepts. She also filled her time with costume and floral designs. In the last two years, she resided in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida. Her vibrancy for finding connections to others brought her true happiness and unconditional love to everyone she met. One would never leave a conversation feeling like a stranger because she made each and every one of us feel welcomed and accepted. She is preceded in death by her parents, Jerome and Esther Defourneaux, and brother, Jerome Jr. She is survived by her siblings Nathalie Cordes (Daniel), Dorothy Scala (Ralph) and James Defourneaux (Suzzan) and numerous nieces and nephews. Although her physical presence here has ended, she will continue to live on through the love and lessons she poured into us all. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to St. Christopher the Martyr Catholic Church. Services will be held with a Visitation on Thursday, February 1, 2024 at L. A. Muhleisen & Son Funeral Home, 2607 Williams Blvd, Kenner from 5:00-8:00 PM. and at St. Christopher the Martyr Catholic Church, 3900 Derbigny St., Metairie on Friday, February 2, 2024 from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM. Celebration of Life Mass will immediately follow at 1:00 PM. All friends and family are welcome to gather after the mass with a location to be announced. In honor of Helen, we ask that you dress in colorful and creative attire. Mardi Gras colors encouraged, hats always welcomed. To share memories or condolences please visit www.muhleisen.com

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Lang family this week as they celebrate Helen's life, a life well lived. She was an inspiration to all who knew her. We will always treasure our Castellanos family gatherings throughout the years and Helen's contagious smile. She will be missed by all who knew her. May God guide her family and friends through their grief as she enters Heaven's gates covered with green, purple and gold Mardi Gras beads and looks down on NOLA saying, "Let the good times roll."
