Ira Eugene Bennett Sr.

1963 - 2024

Ira Eugene Bennett Sr. was born in Monticello, Mississippi on September 26, 1963 to Florene Bennett and Ira Bennett. He has two siblings Arthur Ray Brown (preceded) and Dorothy Andry. He was raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. Ira later went on to graduate from John Mack High School class of 1981. After graduation he joined the United States Navy, where he remained enlisted for twenty two years. After an honorable discharge and retiring from the Navy in Lancaster California, he moved back to his home town of New Orleans , where worked a plethora of jobs finally landing at Folgers Coffee of New Orleans, where he remained until his passing. Ira is survived by three daughters, Crystal Haynes-Bailey (Patrick), Danielle Ray (Tommye), and Jasmine Bennett-Ester (Gary) and is preceded in death by his only son Ira Eugene Bennett Jr. Ira has twelve grandkids Landon, Ty, Devonta, De'Marcus, Meagan, Nia, Nazir, Niran, Logan, Sa'Myri, Greyson and Gage. Ira prided himself on being family oriented. Family was very important to him. In his spare time he spent many moments with his children and grandchildren doing various activities. He was very present with his grandkids showing up for "grandparents luncheons at schools, sports activities and Daddy daughter dances. He also enjoyed countless family reunions, the presence of being surrounded by those he loved was a high priority. He enjoyed the New Orleans lifestyle and culture engaging in many festivals. Ira is preceded in death by his son Ira Eugene Bennett Jr, his brother Arthur Ray Brown, his Mother Florene Bennett, and his father Ira Bennett. Ira leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews amongst other family and friends. In lieu of flowers arrangements they may be sent to D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home.
