Meridith F. “Big Boy” Bennett Sr., 84, of Hinton went home to be with the Lord Friday, June 13, 2025 at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital following a long illness.
Born August 22, 1940 in Hinton, he was a son of the late Alvie and Margaret Adkins Bennett.
Meridith had worked as a Jailor for the Summers County Sheriff's Department, for the Department of Natural Resources, WV Division of Forestry and the WV Department of Highways. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and spending time with his family and friends. Meridith was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Tammy Lynn Bennett Johnson Mongeni; two grandchildren, Meridith F. “Trey” Bennett III and Karen Sue Bennett; four brothers, Robert Bennett, Billy Bennett, Michael Bennett and Everette Bennett and three sisters, Dreama Martin, Sissy Graham and Beatrice Bennett.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 65 years, Frieda Jewell Wills Bennett; four children Sue Bennett and husband William, Audrey Bennett Yancey Dzik, Meridith F. Bennett Jr. and companion Elizabeth Harvey and Lura Kay Lasley and husband Aaron; six grandchildren, William F. Bennett Jr. and wife Sarah, Andrea Leigh-Ann Yancey, Randall Ellis Johnson and wife Jessica, Terra Nicole Bennett, Jonathan David Tucker Bennett and wife Haley and Caden James Lasley; several great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, June 17, 2025 at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Pastor Robbie Merritt officiating. Burial will follow in the Upland Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon until time of services Tuesday at the funeral parlors. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital ICU and Dialysis.
