Jacob Joseph Meyer

Jacob Joseph Meyer passed away on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 in Mandeville, LA at the age of 83. He was born on December 28, 1930 in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late Charles Meyer and Minnie Heller-Pohl Meyer. Jacob was married to his beloved Ghislaine Rene de Cotret Meyer. He is survived by his first wife, Maria Schiro Meyer and their children, Diana Rachel Meyer, David Charles Meyer (Lizbeth Ecke Meyer), Helen Meyer Redmann, and the late Paul Randolph Meyer. Jacob will be dearly missed by his four grandchildren, Matthew Meyer, Lillie Meyer, Emilie Redmann, and Olivia Redmann. He was a graduate of Tulane University and Tulane University School of Law (1955), practicing law for 28 years before becoming a United States Magistrate. As an attorney, garnering national attention in 1976, at the request of the Louisiana Lung Association, he was the first to represent plaintiffs to determine the constitutional rights of non-smokers to breathe smoke-free air in a public stadium (Superdome).
