Jeffalonia Finch Obituary
Jeffalonia (Narnie) Finch
Midlothian
Loved and surrounded by the family She loved, our precious Mother and Grandmother, Jeffalonia Finch of Midlothian, TX., peacefully left us to be with our Lord and Savior on Friday, April 22, 2011. Jeffalonia or lovingly known as Narnie was born April 14, 1924, in Argo, TX. to Ollie and Irene Alexander. She was preceded in death by her husband Otis Finch, her mother and father, three brothers: OV Alexander, Clifton Wayne Alexander, Gerald VanHoose and one sister Vivan Kay Stenzel. Jeffalonia is survived by one son Alan Finch and wife Karen, one daughter Charla Minter and husband Ronnie, three grandchildren Kelly Draxlir, Jeffrey Finch and Lance Reed. She also had 2 step-grandsons Rusty Minter and Dusty Minter, and six great grand children, all of Midlothian TX. Jeffalonia is also survived by three sisters, Lois Powell of Sanger, TX, Emma Tullis of Jacksboro, TX and Vonda Hickman of Lubbock, TX.
Jeffalonia was a child of the Depression Era and knew many hardships while growing up in and around Afton, TX and Spur, TX. Her dad, Ollie Alexander, being crippled could not provide for his family leaving many hardships on wife and children. Therefore, even as small children, she and her brothers and sisters worked in the fields pulling bowls to help the family. This being said, Jeffalonia was never afraid of hard work and along with her husband, in the years of raising their family, always instilled the same work and life ethics in Alan and Charla.
In the later years, after losing her husband, she made her living as a beautician in Abilene, TX. where she lived until the year 2003. Due to failing health, she moved to Midlothian, TX to be near her children.
Jeffalonia "Narnie" was known for her quick wit and funny quotes which she could slip in as constructive advice to be recognized only as "advice" later. Her favorite hobbies and past times before her health and eyesight began to fail her were dancing, sewing, and crocheting beautiful Afghans for her children and grandchildren. She watched the National News and could tell you to date what was happening politically. So much so, that she would say "I'm a news freak". Her favorite time was when her kids, grandkids and great grandkids would come over and talk, tell stories, and laugh. Sometimes she would break out into a yodel for us all. She never wanted that day to end. Her birthdays were always celebrated in that manner.
Jeffalonia was a loving Mother and Grandmother. She was raised in church and was a Christian with strong Christian beliefs. One of the most enduring memories that we will keep in our hearts and minds was listening and joining in singing old time Gospel Hymns. She loved to attend the Ellis County Cowboy Church and listen to her great grand-daughter, Kelsey, sing each Sunday.
Such a beautiful lady will be sorely missed by us all. Even though our hearts are aching, we know Heaven is gaining an Angel to help watch over us.
Visitation will be held at Midlothian Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 from 6 pm to 8 pm. The Funeral will be also held at the Midlothian Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at 2 pm. Interment will be Spur Cemetery in Spur, TX on Thursday, April 28, 2011 at 2pm.
Our circle has been broken but will someday be joined again.
