Jesse Clarence Hughes

1946 - 2023

Jesse Clarence Hughes entered into the arms of Jesus on January 31, 2023. Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on "yes" the Spirit, They will rest from their labor for their deeds follow them, Revelation 14:13. God sent an angel to his room to calm the storm he was going through. Jesse was known to his family as "J.C. and Lil Moochie" and was born in Wilson, LA on May 18, 1946 to the late Salley Drake Fortenberry and N.C. Hughes, both of Wilson, LA. He was educated in the public school system, Asberry Elementary and Norwood Elementary. He was baptized at an early age at Wesley United Methodist Church pastored by the late Rev. James A. Smith of Wilson, LA. Jesse graduated from West Senior High School in Jackson, LA in 1964. He is survived by one son, Jermaine Troy Hughes (Keisha); one brother, Lanzio Fortenberry (Sandi); one uncle, Rev. Andrew Drake, Jr.; three grandkids, Jaden, Juliana and Jace Hughes; two cousin, Ruth D. McKession and Thelma Rogers; five brothers-in-law; three sisters-in-law and a host of nieces and nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Gloria Hankton Hughes; one son, Brian Hughes; one sister and one granddaughter. J.C., we saw you growing weary and tired. Our hearts are broken. You will forever be in our hearts and never forgotten. You are resting in the arms of Jesus. You've fought a good fight and finished your course. We won't say goodbye, but farewell until we meet again. Relatives and friends of the family, all neighboring churches, also employees of RTA are invited to attend his Funeral Service at New Hope Baptist Church, 1807 John C. Rafeal Way, New Orleans, Louisiana on Thursday, February 9, 2023 at 10:00 am. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am. Interment: Kennedy Cemetery in Raceland, Louisiana. Arrangements by D.W.
