So sad to hear the news about Jo-Ellen.
In reading her obituary, I am not at all surprised that she devoted her life to the field of Social Work.
I met Jo-Ellen when I was 16 years old. I had just arrived in New Orleans as a Cuban refugee....scared, very sad, and with very little English language knowledge. The St. Joseph nuns practically adopted me as I attended St. Joseph Academy for my last two years in High School...and so did Jo-Ellen!!! She too was 16 years old at the time!!! Somehow she realized that I was lonely, missing my parents, and unable to communicate well in English. Jo-Ellen was kind and generous to me- always attentive, always comforting, and always lending a helping hand whenever she suspected I needed help.
Our paths never crossed again after we both graduated from St. Joseph Academy, but I never forgot her. Jo-Ellen, you were then and will always be the best Social Worker ever. May the Lord bless you and keep you and may you always sing in the Glee Club of Heaven as we both sang in the Glee Club at school together.
