John Bartchy Obituary

John Demetrius Bartchy, Jr. passed away on Friday, May 5, 2017, at the age of 73. Beloved husband of Glenda G. Bartchy. Father of Constance "Connie" Caravella, John Bartchy III, and Brian P. Bartchy. Father-in-law of Steven Caravella. Grandfather of Christina, Michael and Dominic Caravella. Son of the late John Demetrius Bartchy, Sr. and Mary Whalen Bartchy. Brother of Joanne Reber (Sonny) and the late Mary Lou Parenton (Tee Paul). Stepfather of Eric Laborde (Addie), Heather Laborde Bogan (Robbie) and Gant Laborde. Step-grandfather Remy Melancon and Luke Laborde. He is also survived by a host of loving nieces and nephews and his beloved and loyal dogs, Buddy and Gypsy. Mr. Bartchy was a graduate of Redemptorist High School. He retired as Captain from the New Orleans Fire Department after 37 years of service. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Greenwood Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Blvd., New Orleans, on Sunday, May 7, 2017 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and again on Monday, May 8, 2017, starting at 9:00 AM, followed by a Mass in the Chapel at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. The family invites you to share your thoughts, fond memories, and condolences online, at www.GreenwoodFH.com

I attended Redemptorist High and graduated with John. He always had a pleasant personality and a warm smile. I saw John in later years and he still had that pleasant personality and warm smile. I know that he has many RHS Rams welcoming him into his new Heavenly Home. Thanks for the memories, John.
I know that Mike Gordy, my brother-in-law, will be there to welcome you. Rest In PEACE, my friend, until the rest of us join you, when the saints go marching in!
