Colonel Bastian was my supervisor in the military at Ft Sam Houston. He was a great leader with a caring disposition to all who was under his command. I always wonder what happened to him after I left that post. I was a young female soldier working with all males. He had a great impact on my life as a young soldier. His secretary was name Mrs Bean. When I got married in the military and was pregnant with my first child he let me stay home made sure that I received all the help I need. He was a great man. I will always remember him. I know this is a long time after his passing, but I just ran across his name. I sending my condolences to all his family. Just want you all to know that had a great impact on the soldiers that he command. I will never forget what he done for me. I promise I am not the only soldier that was in his command that thinking of this great man and will never forget him. He cared about every soldier in his command. One of these greatest. I know his passing left a void in everyone whoever came in contact with him. I know I am late. I always wanted to tell him thanks for being a great leader.

Dearest Bastian Family:

My name is Eugene Cousins, I was inducted into the Bastian family on January 17, 1937 when Marian Claire Wambsgan Bastian was my christian sponsor at my baptism. I am the son of William Peter Cousins and Lena Marino.

I have many fond memories of visiting Mr and Mrs Bastian where they lived behind the Pharmacy on Carrollton Ave.The building was torn down just a few short months past. I enjoyed Christmas the most Mr John would put his little city up in the living room, the little houses each with their own lights and Mrs Bastian with passing out the most wonderful presents ever.

I do not remember John 111 much, the opportunity did not present itself. In this your time of sorrow may I offer my deepest sympathy on your great loss.

My deapest sympathy to Margaret Bastine in your great loss. I realize you do not know me, Marie Bastian was my Great-Grand mother. I feel sure she was John's great aunt, and John and I are related by marriage. Why I feel so strongly about the relationship is the fact that my Great-Grand mother was laid to rest in 1896 in the Bastine family tomb in Metairie Cemetery. I know very little about the Bastian Family and it has left a huge hole in my life. I do know Marie had two brothers and one was named John. Would someone in the family please, please contact me? Johnny was married to my cousin, Margie. I have not seen them for a while, but have often thought about them. Johnny was a very witty person. I know his humor and love will be sorely missed by his family, but they know he is home now. Our prayers are for him and his family in their time of need.
