John Lagarde Obituary

John Joseph Lagarde, known affectionately as "John-John Gardy," was born on January 22nd, 1993 to Alan Joseph Lagarde and Lisa Carol Baker Lagarde in Dallas, Texas. John was a loving brother to Ali and Lydia Lagarde. He is survived by both of his parents and sisters, his Nana, Marilyn Haver, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins, as well as his ferocious cat, Nugget. John spent the first eighteen years of his life living in Dallas. He was an avid lacrosse player and spent his free time BMXing, skateboarding, snowboarding, and wakeboarding. After John's graduation from W.T. White High School in Dallas, Texas, he moved to New Orleans, Louisiana to pursue his newfound and quickly flourishing passion for food and cooking. John was a gentle soul with a tough exterior, fiercely protective, hardworking and creative in his work, and caring almost to a fault. John had an undeniably contagious energy and was consistently moved and affected by the world and people around him. Apart from the love he felt for his small circle of friends and family, John's most lasting legacy is the love and dedication he had for culinary arts and for the process of sharing that love through the food that he cooked. Days before John died, he had been excitedly work-shopping recipes for boiled peanuts, actively making plans to start a booth at the Hancock County Farmers' market, and was hoping to create and cook more that he could share with the community. John had been making hopeful plans for the future. John died from an accidental overdose. He had struggled with addiction for many years of his life. His battle with addiction proved to be too much for him to overcome, but his legacy of love and passion for life is one that persists beyond his time on earth. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am with a memorial mass at 12:00 pm at Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church on Wednesday, August 28, 2019. Immediately following mass, John will be laid to rest at Gardens of Memory. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Ben's Friends Charity: bensfriendshope.com. If you or your loved one is struggling with addiction, call 1-800-662-4357. Edmond Fahey Funeral Home in Bay St. Louis, MS is in charge of the arrangements

I just heard the news of John's passing today. He came to our home often as he was friends with my son Hunter and his sister was friends with my daughter Molly. He was always so happy and a joy to have around. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

I was truly fond of John.He was my daughter Kelly Kate's first love, her high school sweetheart and therefore very important to my family.I thought he was clever, funny and he was a sweetie to me.I saw so much potential in John and hoped fervently that he would find a peaceful life. I will always remember him as the beautiful boy my daughter introduced me to as "her John". I send love, white light and much empathy to the LaGarde family each one.

Dear Lagarde Family,
I am heartbroken over John's passing. I taught him in third grade, and he was very sweet and so good-natured. Your photo of him is very handsome! Sometimes he would visit with me when he came to pick Lydia up at school. He told me about living in New Orleans and becoming a chef. I thought that was so great, and I was so proud of him! He did have a zest for life, and I was so fond of him. It is so unbelievable that he is gone from us, but he was much loved, and will never be forgotten. I'm praying for him and for you all. Love and peace to you all,
Susan Pardo

John always met me quip for quip and joke for joke. He was my bud and I will miss his sense of humor and how we cared for each other regardless of where we were in life or the hard things we had to deal with. Im glad I knew him and the influence he had in my life. Though we didn't stay in touch in the last year, he will always be in my heart.

As a friend of our son, we always heard great stories about John. The cooking and following his passion is one that we will remember. I am not able to even process the pain that you are all experiencing. A light went out far too early. My prayers are with your family and all of those friends that are mourning his loss.

John was so sweet. Always fun to be around him. I'm heartbroken for you all. I wish I could've been there today. I'm sorry I wasn't. Know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers. I believe he has found peace now. That's what I tell myself to try to make sense of it. Just know I'm here and if there is anything I can do for all of you, just ask. Love you all.

To the Lagarde family,

I am overwhelmed with empathy for your loss. John was such a special , funny, and exciting person. He was the type of person who you wanted to please because it was so fun to see him happy. He was unbelievably smart too; the kind of guy for whom there were so many career options to choose from that the choice felt overwhelming. He could have done anything he wanted. I think his choice to be a chef was brave. When everyone else went to college because they thought it was what they were supposed to do, John decided to do what he wanted. He worked very hard to be what he thought was best in his field. John always looked for authenticity and he hated doing things because others felt he should. I was deeply inspired by this at a young age. He made me a much more independent person. I am and will remain so flattered that such a person chose to spend their time with me. When my daughter asks me who my high school sweetheart was, I'll smile and tell her all about the funny and deeply concerned individual that I loved so much. She and I will pray for him often. We are praying for you too, Ali, Lydia, Mr., and Mrs. Lagarde.
