Joseph Beach Obituary

Joseph DePaul Beach, Jr., 73 years old passed away on Sunday, March 13, 2022 in Covington, LA. Joe was born on July 10, 1948 (Lev. 16:29) in New Orleans, LA. He was the beloved son of Joe and Celie Beach, the 2nd of 4 children. He attended Saint Catherine of Sienna as a child and like his father and brother was a proud Holy Cross Tiger '66 and SLU Lion '70. Always kind, considerate, gentle, humble and selfless, to say that he was a good guy is an understatement. A devout Catholic, always praying, attending Mass and visiting the Adoration Chapel, attending Catholic Charismatic events, his life was dedicated to serving others. He cared for his parents for many years and was devoted to all of his family, including his siblings Peggy Ronzello, Peter Beach and Marie Cosse; loved In-laws; Ronnie Ronzello, JoAnn Beach (his favorite Sister-in-Law) and Clay Cosse. He was Uncle Joe and UJ to Nicole Dupre, Callan Beach, Lauren Sanborn, Kristen Webre, Clay Cosse, Jr., Joel Ronzello, Laura Gatlin, Jared Ronzello, Evan Cosse and Thomas Beach. He was the Grand-Uncle to 27. Special deep felt gratitude to Lauren and Mark Sanborn who lovingly shared their lives, family and home with Joe for over four marvelous and challenging years. We also want to thank the staff at Peristyle at Beau West for the love, support and care of Joe in his last days. The staff there told us that "Joe really kept us on our toes." Joe was a good and faithful servant of His Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, a friend described him as "Salt of the Earth", a career long Pulmonary Function Technician in New Orleans, tugboat hand in his college years, an environmentalist on Corn Island after college, a researcher with a medical grant from both Tulane and USC in Aiken, South Carolina for years, a long time volunteer for Right to Life, creating their annual calendar for many years, a horseman, an avid Notre Dame fan, (He loved all things Notre Dame University), a horse lover, a lover of all music, especially musical Broadway shows, a caregiver and family man, a happy wanderer ... the world was a better place with Joe in it. Joe's body will be donated to science to help further the research of Alzheimer's. A Mass will be said on March 23, 2022 at 11 am at St. Peter's Catholic Church, located at 125 East 19th Street in Covington. Visitation will begin at 10 am. Burial will take place in one year upon completion of the medical research. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Catholic Charismatic Renewal of New Orleans in Metairie or Notre Dame University, South Bend, IN in Joe's name.

I met Joe at a get together in Covington by the Youth Group from the Catholic Charismatic Prayer Group. I believe it was December 15th, 1973 and the night I made my committee to our Lord Jesus Christ. Praise God!

I got close to Joe at Holy Cross in 11th grade as he sat right in front of me, as we both had a B last name.

It was similar to two years earlier with Joe's cousin Jerry and I were brought together because of names. I got along very well with both and bragged about hanging around with the 'Beach boys'.

I got to like Notre Dame football after Joe informed me it was the same order as our Holy Cross brothers. Plus the two fight songs music was the same and just a few changes in the lyrics.

I got Joe to tell me why he was so much a ND Irish fan. It turns out his father Joe Sr was a really good football and baseball player for Holy cross, and he got to play both for Notre Dame also.

That was something great IMO!

"I got around" from one to the other Beach boy on Magnolia Dr to Sycamore Dr for another one block away.

In our senior year both Joe and I decided to go to Southeastern in Hammond and to be roommates.

In the freshman dorm one day at Southeastern I was playing Roy Orbison LP record continually, and when I did stop...Joe broke out in acapella voice with a song. It was "They Call the Wind Mariah" from Broadway musical, Paint Your Wagon. He was really good and I got the message.

The opening lines are "Away out here they have a name for rain and wind and fire. The rain is Tess, the fire's Joe and they call the wind Mariah."

That was a big hit with me, and I gave up on Roy Orbison. I would ask Joe to sing Mariah again and again many times, and he did every time.

Joe was a good student and I wasn't, and after my really bad first semester I needed help. I asked Joe and he made it sound simple to do. But it was hard to correct all those bad habits from years passed.

I kept working on it with encouragement from Joe, and after two improved semesters it was getting easier. My last two years I never got lower than 3.2 GPA . Thanks to Joe.

To Peggy, Peter and all the Beach family, my thanks to Joe, a true Holy Cross Man, gentleman, scholar and good friend.

I am sorry to hear of Joe's passing but so glad he is now at peace and for sure he is in Heaven.

But missed a lot by family and friends.

Happy Trails to Y'all,

David Bernard - Friend and Roommate

I was a friend of Joe's years ago when he was Pulmonary Tech at Jo Ellen Smith Mem. Hospital., and years before at Holy Cross. Joe was always the nicest of guys. He always had time for me as a salesman and friend. Our lives went in different directions, but I will always remember him as the nice guy he was. My sincerest condolences to his family.

Little Joe was our next door neighbor for over 50 years. He was the kindest, most selfless person I've ever met. He took wonderful care of his sweet parents. Our dog would listen for his car and demand for him to play with her as soon as he arrived home. My son, Mac, and I want to offer our deepest sympathy to his family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
