Joseph Karam Obituary

Joseph Gerard Karam, a pillar of faith and dedication to both family and community, passed away on September 12, 2023, at the age of 65. Born on August 12, 1958, he was the cherished husband of Lucy McGraw Karam for 37 years and a loving father to his children, William Robertson, Caroline Rose, and Mary Margaret. He was the beloved eldest sibling to Terri Karam Busada (Barry), Bernard "Hab" Karam (Amy), Robert "Bob" Karam, Mary Ann Karam Mahtook, and Rita Karam Laborde (Bruce). He was "Uncle Joey" and "Jojo" to many loving nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Rosalie Mowad Karam and Bernard Otto Karam, and parents by marriage, Carolyn Roberts McGraw and William Robertson McGraw. Joseph's life was marked by deep faith and a commitment to his community. Having resided in Alexandria, Louisiana, for many years and later in New Orleans, he formed enduring bonds with those in his midst. His unwavering faith shone through his steadfast presence at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Moreover, he embodied the virtues of St. Joseph, displaying patience, humility, obedience, protection, and fatherly love. Joseph's journey began in Oakdale, Louisiana, where he graduated from Oakdale High School in 1976. He later graduated from Louisiana State University in 1982 and 1984, where his childhood passion for the university deepened. A founding member of The Party Box tailgate, he was renowned for his love of the LSU Tigers and the camaraderie of game day. As a husband and father, many of his happiest moments were shared with his wife and children at LSU sporting events. Joseph leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and community that touched the lives of family, friends, and acquaintances alike. Above all, his trust in God's plan will be for what he is most remembered. Visitation to celebrate Joseph's life will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, September 18, 2023, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in New Orleans, followed by a memorial mass at 10:30 a.m. He will be laid to rest in a private family ceremony at a family burial plot in Woodworth, Louisiana. Joseph's passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew him, but his memory will continue to inspire love, compassion, and faith in the years to come. The family would like to extend many thanks to the UT Southwestern Lung Transplant Team for their dedication and care. Lastly, the family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St Joseph Catholic Church of New Orleans (www.stjosephchurch-no.org), St Catherine of Siena in Metairie (scschurch.com), and the Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency (www.lopa.org).
