Joseph Kenneth Preyan, III, 72, entered eternal rest on Friday, July 28, 2023. Born on December 12, 1950, to the union of late Gladys Mitchell Preyan and Joseph Preyan, Jr. He was baptized, communized, and confirmed at Saint Joan of Arc Catholic Church New Orleans, where he remained a member until his heavenly father called him home. Joseph received his educational foundation in the New Orleans Public School system and the parochial school of the Archdiocese of New Orleans. Joseph was a proud graduate of P.L. Dunbar Elementary, A.C. Priestly Junior High School and Saint Augustine High School (1969). He retired from the United States Postal Service after being employed for over 34 years. Left to cherish his memory are his beautiful daughters, Jorina Preyan (Pierre) Hill and Jonise Shanks; loving son, Jermaine Anthony Preyan; incredible grandson, Isaiah Preyan; adoring sister, Janice Preyan (dearly departed Lee) Rabb; brothers, Calvin (Debbie) Preyan and Wayne (Sheila) Preyan; former wife and mother of Jorina and Jermaine, Mary Lewis Preyan; sister-in-law, Juanita Leonard (dearly departed Alfred) Lewis; godchildren, Lynesia Preyan (Atari) Raymond, Tajalena (David) Sholes, and Monique Paul; bonus daughter, State Representative- Delisha Boyd; best friend, Byron Berry (who was exemplary of love, commitment, and strength in his life); and his close cousin in daily banter, Thomas Sparrow and a host of aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. Joseph K. Preyan, III was preceded in death by his doting parents, Gladys and Joseph, Jr; grandparents Ida Bazile Preyan and Joseph Preyan, Sr.; Nancy Scott Mitchell and Thomas Mitchell, Sr.; and brother-in-law Alfred Lewis. A mass of Christian burial honoring the life and legacy of the late Joseph Kenneth Preyan, III will be held at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 8321 Burthe Street, New Orleans, LA 70118 on Saturday, August 5, 2023 at 11:00 am, Father Charles Andrus, S.S.J., Celebrant. My husband, Terry and I met Joseph (“Dip”) years ago through my cousin Byron. We all thought of Dip as one of the cousins. He was such a nice person, always smiling and so pleasant. As much as we will miss him, thank GOD, we have such lovely memories that will one day ease the pain of his passing. I have been praying that GOD will comfort and strengthen you, his family. May your faith provide solace and peace that GOD knows best. I also pray that as believers in Christ, we are assured that we will see our dearly departed loved ones again.

To the Preyan Family,
May you take comfort and peace in our Creator knowing Joe is present with him.
We worked together for many years and never saw him with a sad face. Joe had an infectious personality and I certainly never forget him. He was known around the job as "Joe the Pro!"
