Joseph Romano

Romano MARINE CORPS VETERAN OF WORLD WAR II and the Korean War, Joseph G. Romano died Thursday, February 4, 2016. He was 88. A locally popular expert watch and clock repairman who also built antique clock replicas for customers and restored many clocks of all ages and sizes, especially after Hurricane Katrina, Mr. Romano was a former AT&T employee of 33 years, a Life Member and former President of the company's Westbank Pioneers and served multiple terms as Commander of the American Legion's Henry Thomas Ross Post in which he was an active member for 65 years. A former Knight of the Year in the St. Cletus chapter of the Knights of Columbus, Mr. Romano played a key role in the renovation and expansion of the Knight's Hall there. Among family and friends, he was well-known as a "master craftsman" having started early as a professional electrician, as well as a plumber, appliance repairman, auto mechanic and expert carpenter in all aspects of the craft from house framing to cabinet making. In the 1940's he intended to go into the Marine Corps Infantry, but when he scored the highest in Mechanical Aptitude Testing in his class of 200, the Marine Corps assigned him to aviation hydraulics maintenance and repair. Longing to return to his New Orleans hometown, family, friends and sweetheart, he respectfully declined his base commanding colonel's offer of early promotion if he had stayed in the Corps and left active duty in the early 1950's. BELOVED HUSBAND OF the late Lorraine Louise Barry Romano. Son of the late Frank Romano and Catherine Gerace Romano. Father of Joseph Guy Romano, Catherine Marie Romano and Lori Louise Romano. Brother of the late Santa Haslauer, Anna Prager, Antoinette Kline, Domenica Tuminello, Anthony Romano, Nat Romano, Frank Romano and Philip Romano. Also survived by a host of nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation at MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, LA on Saturday, February 13, 2016 from 11AM until 1PM. A Funeral Mass will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at 1PM. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, 5200 Canal Blvd., New Orleans, LA. 70124.
