Joseph Zito Obituary

Joseph Nicholas Zito passed away on Friday, March 9, 2007. Age 88, a native of Kenner and a lifelong resident of Metairie. Beloved husband of Effie V. Zito. Father of Darlene Ann Cavalier and son-in-law Milton. Son of the late Nancy Palmisano and Francis Zito. Survived by one nephew Peter Farina and his wife Mary Grace. Brother of the late Rita Farina and her husband the late Joseph Farina. Grandfather of Nicholas and Natalie Cavalier. Also survived by cousins: Anna and Emile Demma and Samuel and Shirley Perrone and numerous friends and family. Special thanks to the staff of St. Joseph Hospice for their care and kindness. Mr. Zito honorably served his country in the Korean War and WWII where he became a recipient of the Purple Heart. Mr. Zito was a proud member of Good Ole Metairie Boys Club, Marine Corps league, past member of American Legion Post # 175 and an Alumni of Metairie High School. He was a dedicated coach for a number of years at Johnny C. Bright, Girard and Metairie playgrounds. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass at St. Angela Merici Catholic Church, 901 Beverly Garden Dr., Metairie, on Monday, March 12, 2007 at 12:00 noon. Friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Mr. Zito's family request that donations be made to St. Joseph Hospice, 824 Elmwood Park Blvd., Suite 155, New Orleans, LA 70123.
