Kathryn Evans Obituary

Kathryn Elizabeth 'Beth' Bohnstorff Evans, born February 8, 1929 in New Orleans, Louisiana, passed away the morning of November 6, All Saints Sunday. Her family members were able to share in her final days on Earth, and she passed peacefully and mercifully into Heaven. Known by those in her tight-knit family as "Grandmommie," Beth was most certainly the matriarch of the family. She loved with a fierce tenacity, especially fond of her great-grandchildren who she affectionately referred to as 'my babies.' Beth grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana and attended Judson College, followed by graduation from Newcomb College with a degree in Social Work. She later went back for her certification in Early Childhood Education. Beth's passion for learning through play was realized in her 25 years of teaching kindergarten in New Orleans. After retiring from education, Beth became quite a master in the arts of smocking and heirloom sewing. She created countless pieces worn by her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her final masterpiece and labor of love was a christening gown she made in 2017 for the baptism of her great-grandchildren. Beth was preceded in death by her husband, Emile Frank Evans, and by her parents, William Koops Bohnstorff and Kathryn Mary Bartlett Bohnstorff. Beth is survived by her daughter, Nancy Evans Borland (New Orleans, LA), granddaughter, Mary Kathryn Borland (Birmingham, AL), grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Will and Jennie Borland, great-grandchildren, Franklin and Stella Borland (Birmingham, AL), cousin Kay Legendre Dore and her husband, Bill (Birmingham, AL), and cousin Bob Jané and his wife, Sharon (Picayune, MS). At a later date, Beth will be honored and laid to rest at the Metairie Cemetery in New Orleans. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Wesleyan College Advancement, 4760 Forsyth Road, Macon, GA 31210 or online at www.wesleyancollege.edu/give.
