Lana Hingle Obituary

Lana Jean Hingle (Stockstill), of New Orleans, Louisiana, born on October 3, 1943 in Nairn, Louisiana, to the late Myrl Lincoln Hingle and the late Joseph P. Hingle, passed away at age 78 on February 9, 2022 in New Orleans, Louisiana. She attended Buras High School followed by college at LSU where her love of dance brought her to become a Golden Girl while she earned her degree in liberal arts and math. She then ventured to New York City where she became a stock broker. After her father's passing, she came back to Louisiana to take over the family businesses. She reconnected with her high school love, Lyle Stockstill. Together they co-founded, Torch Inc., a company that built a fleet of pipelay vessels that employed hundreds of families. Lana and Lyle went on to have three daughters and a son. Lana was an unsinkable, quiet force that supported and encouraged strength in all that knew her. Lana was an avid bridge player, shrewd businesswoman, ballet dancer and wonderful friend to many. Of all her accomplishments in life her proudest was that of Mom. She was unconditional in her support of her children and grandkids. She is survived by her children, Lanay, Lylyn, Labree, and Gabriel Stockstill and her bonus children, Shannon and September Stockstill. Also survived by her are sisters Linda Hingle Rhodes and Brenda Joseph Hingle and her five grandchildren, Mila Stockstill, Emi Elan Stockstill, Jocelyn Stockstill Deffes, Prentiss Stockstill and Brielle Stockstill. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lyle G. Stockstill. Friends and family members may attend the memorial service on Wednesday, March 9 visitation 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help (Belle Chasse), 8968 Highway 23, Belle Chasse. Mass at 3:00. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Covenant House of Louisiana, https://www.covenanthousenola.org/, 611 N. Rampart St., New Orleans, LA 70112.

So many of my childhood memories involved my, very independent, "Aunt Lana". I always looked up to her, and enjoyed her and her family. I can hear her sassy replies now (and my heart swells). My deepest sympathy to all who miss her.

I am grateful to have known Aunt Lana as a child. I was young and didn´t really know her, but I do remember her and I remember she smiled a lot. She was a kind person who emitted love. I remember being so happy when we were together as a "family". She will be missed, no doubt. I am sorry for the loss her family and friends suffer. I am happy for her as she transcends to a better existence.

So very sorry to hear of Lana´s passing. I knew the Stockstill family in high school. It makes me sad to hear of another peer gone. Prayers for the family, especially Gabe, who took care of his mom the past several years.
